I am awaiting a surgery date for RNY surgery. I am having the Surgery at  IU Health North in Carmel Indiana. My surgeon is Dr. Mattar. I was wondering if anyone could share with me what their hospital experience was? I am trying to plan and anticipate any areas I might need to watch out for.  If would love to hear from anyone.  Thanks so very much. Take care. Dawn

I have questions such as:
Were you made to feel comfortable?
How was the staff as far as support and in relation to your needs?
Any problems with pain management?
Was your stay too long or too short? (Why)
Did they supply you with most the things you needed?
If you could change anything what would it be?

I had my sleeve there last week. Dr Mattar is my surgeon too. I cannot say how great an experience I had. Everyone was great!

I didnt have RNY, but my pain was well controlled. I really didn't have any pain to speak of. I stayed two nights which seemed about right. Dr Mattar wants to make sure you are taking fluids OK. They had most of supplies. I did take my own pjs, toiletries, etc.

I cannot think of anything else that could have been done. It was great!

Hi my name is Christina,i had my surgery there last feb.3 and I had the best care from the best, most caring staff. I love Dr. Mattar he is wonderful and all the staff workers at the clinic are so caring. My hospital stay was very comfortable and pain was not a issue at all. I was able to have the pain was controlled very well. I did not feel my stay was to long, mainly because everyone was so great.I have been in some hospitals and wanted to leave after one day because the bedside manner of some of the staff was aweful. My parents came to Indiana to be with me from Michigan and they really liked the staff and how well Dr. Mattar presented himself. In my opinion he is an outstanding doctor and I have no regrets !I would not have changed a single thing, except maybe not having it done sooner.I really think you will agree with this and I cannot see anyone being disappointed in Dr. Mattar. Best of everything to you!

Christina, Sorry it took a while for me to respond. Thank you for the information that you shared. How are you doing? I hope well. I hope things are going well for you since surgery. I finally got my surgery date Aug 17th and cannot wait! I am very nervous but, ready. I was just asking the question because my worry would be dealing with some staff that did not understand what it is like to be overweight. I have been in too many hospitals to count and some of the experiences have not been too comfortable. Being overweight I have found that some things just do not work or shall I say fit for an obese person. I have had a few situations that have been embarassing and uncomfortable. I would think that they have done a few of these surgeries and gotten most of the kinks worked out. lol  I would love to hear how your doing. Many blessings. Take care. thanks again! Dawn

Aug.17th is the big day. You are going to be very thrilled with the staff. Dr. Mattar is great,i am assuming you have met with him a few times by now. I know what you mean about bad being in bad positions,I had a awful experience with a Indy Hospital 3 years prior with the lap-band procedure and was just shocked about the crappy bed-side manner of several of the staff.Rest assured it was not @ Clarion.I am doing great as far as my goal. I have surpassed my goal weight the Dr. had set for me. In the beginning he told me a healthy weight for me would be 160. I am 153# and have been doing great with my diet and following all the rules that you will learn. Protein first, vitamins, and fluid intake, the 30 min rule and being active. My life has been so improved that it really amazes me and what i can do. One thing that you should always remember and do not ever lose sight of is that You are stronger than you think! It is amazing what that knowledge will do for you. I am running and lifting weights at the local gym and doing spinning classes and yoga. There is no way I could see myself doing these things 2 years ago.You are going to be healthy and strong and it is the best thing you can do for yourself. I remember the 3 days leading up to my surgery,i was scared to death, even doubted what i was doing to my insides. I am so happy i stuck it out to see the end result. I live in Connersville and you have me for support. I will see ya on the Losers Bench!

This post is quite old but I had Dr Mattar last Sept 1, 11 and wonder how you are all doing. I've been out for 6 months now and very happy with my progress. Dr Matter is extremely nice, calm, and collected man. I just learned that he is no longer head of the IU dept. don't know why but hope he stays here at IU.
