Hello everyone,
I have been battling a decision  to try this, I have tried to stay away from sweet and some carbs, but still am having problems and embarrassment, I do chew sugarless gum a lot and I am not wanting to stop that.  So I was going to try the deodorizers, I don't like to go out or do anything with other people because I am afraid I will have flatulence and kill everyone.  So with that being said, has anyone tried these products and if so do they really work.  The Internet site said people that have had weight loss surgery, ibs, and other problems have used this and like it.  I think the site is called Flat.D

I've used Devrom.  It does neutralize the odor of the flatulence.  They are chewables.  I got them at the bariatric shop at St. Vincents in Carmel.  They are also available online.  I also use simethecone capsules for bloating and gas, but I use the Devrom if the smell is bad.  The Devrom is kinda pricey.

Is the flatulence a product of the rny? Will we have it forever? Why do we get it? Thanks!

It is my understanding that Yes it is a result of having bariatric surgery. Mine usually does not smell but just sounds bad if I am standing talking to someone.  The toots just pop out without much of my control.  I don't think it will ever go away because it is because they by-passed a portion of the intestine so that is why it happens or that is what I have read.

Ok, this may sound like a trick or joke, but, seriously, why would you not be able to just hold the gas in?  I hold my gas in all the time until I can make it to the bathroom.  Are you saying after surgery we have no control over the sphincter muscle?  Oh, gosh, I hope this isn't true!!!!! Laura

I had some problems after the surgery but for me it is not easy to control I had a rectal surgery that went bad a year after my weight loss surgery, and when I need to go potty, I must go now, and when i pass gas sometimes, i don't have control of it. I don't want to scar you off the surgery, ........ ok the surgery is part of this, but not eating only what you are aloud to can cause problems for some. I for one have problems

I can have some killer farts now, and rarely they seem to pop out.  Usually I can tell if I am going to get gassy, and have not tired anything for it.  I never seem to have any problems at my work.  I think if it becaome an issue you can probably determine what foods make you more gassy than others and just avoid those foods.  I am more concerned for the "sharts".  Never trust a fart!  But that seems to have settled down too.  I would not mind finding a good deodorizer(family would appreciate it).

I am only one, But still, I am one.  I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.  And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do
the something that I can do.
