Blind Loop Syndrome

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with that, what they've done to treat or correct it, and how they are doing now?  I was diagnosed in January after suffering for years.  They diagnosed it after having an enteroclysis.  I was referred to Dr Ditslear, who is a bariatric surgeon that specializes in that syndrome.  I had surgery in August to correct it.  He ended up removing about a foot of bowel and redoing my Y of my roux en y.  I'm doing well so far.

Blind loop is where you have a section of the small bowel that for no known reason decides to stop functioning and becomes paralyzed.  Bacteria grows and causes an infection.  It can lead to partial obstruction, nausea, and vomiting.  When it would stop I would get terrible spasms that started around my belly button and would sometimes go to my right and back.  For years they told me the spasms were from adhesions.

I am almost 8 years post op and have had my share of other complications.  I've had 10 surgeries since my original bariatric surgery.  I'm hoping this last one will be it for me!  Power of positive thinking!!!

Thanks!

Wow! I haven't heard about Blind loop syndrome....ever besides what my mom told me!

My great grandma had such horrible ulcers that they had to remove a big portion of her stomach, and back in those days, there was no such thing as gastric bypass. They didn't find out what happened to her untill she died. So I've never heard of a positive outcome of blind loop syndrome, just the one about my GG mother having it when she died. She did get realllly skinny cause the food wasn't going to nourish her..

Good luck and I'm glad they were able to correct it for you!
