Swollen feet

So I had the hernia surgery nine days ago, and I came home with 21 lbs of fluid weight. I still have eleven pounds of it to lose, but it is all in my legs and feet now. Is this normal this far out of surgery? Or how long does it take? It's so uncomfortable. I'm drinking as much water as I possibly can.

I hope you get an answer to this soon Kerry Jean.  You look fantastic!  Love your house.  It was a great trip there, other than running over a curb and blowing my tire.  But met some great folks at the Fazolis there where my tire blew.  That's what happens when I am rushing to find a bathroom!   The manager Mario sent a young man out to help me and he refused to take any payment for changing my tire!   What nice people! They are everywhere.

Thanks, we will all have to get together again when you are feeling better.  Glad you can use the clothes.

I have not had my surgery yet.....but I am a RN!  That is a lot of excessive fluid weight. It can take up to a month for a normal post-op patient to loose that kind of excessive fluid wgt....
If you have TED hose, wear them through the day to help push that extra fluid back up the circulatory tree to be excreted by the kidneys.

A nurse midwife recommends 1/4 tsp of salt in a cup of water once a day to help pull that fluid back into the circulatory system.  Just do this until the swelling subsides. But don't do this if you have BP problems of course!

Stick to the TED Hose during the day though, they will help!

I wish I had kept my hose they gave me, but I didn't. Today I stepped on the scale and I am 7/10s away from my pre-op weight, so the extra fluids are just about gone!

Did I give you any of those hose in the bag I gave you?  I know I had some and cannot recall what I did with them.  Is the swelling better now?  Isn't this weather fantastic!  Wish you lived closer, we would walk!
