New To OH
Hello! My name is Heather and I am new to OH. I have gone to my consult with Dr. Diaz and because I am a terrible patient and never go to the doctor I have to have 6 months of medically supervised weight loss prior to surgery. So, my first visit with Dr. Gomez was this past Friday. I am trying everything I can to get some weight off pre-op! I am walking 4-5 times a week and I am up to 3 miles in a little under an hour. I am just looking for a place for support and to not be judged. This is the PERFECT place! I love being able to come on here and not be looked at as "the fat girl"! I love that we are ALL in this TOGETHER! You all ROCK!
This is the right place to be for support. I love the folks on here. I joined long before my WLS was done and learned alot just reading the posts. Sounds like you are doing wonderful with t he walking. The time will pass faster than you can imagine. Stay focused and you will do great. You may want to start trying out a few Proteins, but do not get too attached to any one, because your tastes may be entirely different after WLS. Mine sure was. Good Luck, keep us posted on how you are doing.
Right now I am currently using the weigh powder. 1 scoop which is 52 percent of your daily intake and I am getting used to mixing 1 scoop with 4 ounces of water and drinking it 3 times a day. Right now the only one I can handle is the vanilla. Every other flavor makes me gag! But, I have been doing a very low carb high protein diet for some time now. So, I am already used to no pasta, bread, potatoes, chips, or candy. I have never used sugar to cook or make drinks with, we used sweet n low up until splenda came out and that is my "go to" now. My father had the surgery in 04 and passed away in 05 due to unrelated issues. My mother had the surgery in 07 and is doing well. She hasnt been on here in a long time but she is also a member of OH.
Wow, you are ahead of the game it sounds like. There are alot of protein samples you can get on line. Maybe you should try some more and find something that doesn't make you gag. You will want some variety. I get on a kick and make one protein drink for a month or two, then get sick of it and need to find another way to get it in.

Hi Amanda! I'm Laura. My dr is also Dr. Jones. I have finished my six month diet program with Dr Gomez, too. Anyhow, I have been back and forth trying to decide between rny and lap band. Have you had any problems? Was your surgery lap or open? How long did you stay in the hospital and how long were you off work?? Thank you so much for any information! Laura
Hi Laura, I had a lap RNY and have 5 small incision (think the largest was the width of a quarter). I had my surgery early Friday morning and went home Sunday afternoon. I took a week off from work (it happened to be spring break for us) and I did some work from home durign that week, but the Monday after I was back to my normal routine with weight restrictions. And please note that I have a sit down computer job. I did find that I got tired easier the first couple of weeks after the surgery, so usually by the end of the day I just wanted to go home and nap.
I think what helped me the most was I got up and moved as much as i could, as well I have a two and three year old boys to keep up with.

Thanks so much for the info Amanda! I am so worried that I will be off work for too long. I can only take like 10-12 days off. And, I stand most of the day assisting an oral surgeon. But, I can sit down thru out the day occasionally. I am going to have my 2nd consult with Dr Jones on Aug 12 due to my indecisiveness. Thank you for your help! Sincerely, Laura
