Community Hospital - Indy

Has anyone else gone through Community for their surgery? I've had two visits (one left) with the dietitian and psychiatrist and haven't been too impressed with the psychiatrist.

The first time I met her was at their south location which is an office the only use once a week. She was a little stand offish, but I figured that was just my nerves and skewed perception of things. Well, last week I saw her in "her" office at Comm. North. She spent more time looking at her computer screen than at me. I assume she was typing in what I was saying, but...I don't know...she's a psychiatrist, shouldn't she be focusing on me not making her job easier by not having to transcribe notes to her computer later?

Her last question (while still looking at her computer...and I'm only assuming she's writing notes about our session) was, "Is there anything else you need help with?" Well, yeah, lady, so far you've chided me for drinking coffee (though I've cut back) and still snacking (even though they are sugar free, healthy foods). She didn't even bother to ask what i was snacking on.

Wow, this has turned into a rant.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has met Dr. Mary and what their opinion was of her.

LOL,... I've not seen her, but I wouldn't take the psychiatrist as a representation of the whole program. I have heard from lots of people who thought Dr. Stote at St. V was kind of an odd duck, and they still liked the program overall. I think psychiatrists are just a different kind of breed entirely.

I saw Dr Stote at St V.  I had read so many comments about how odd and unfriendly he was it scared me and I was so nervous going in.  So, I have to speak up; Dr Stote was very, very kind and I found him to be a delightful, sweet and caring doctor!

As someone who has been thru the psychiatry visits as part of my journey and as someone who hopes to practice that career someday I want to say I was trained to put the client first and establish positive regard. I like people to look into my eyes when we are talking and not into some computer screen. I want them to hear me and to not seem distracted. As therapists we all have our own ways of practicing so we are so individualized as is each person we see. Thank you for talking about this on here and for helping me to realize how I want to interact with my clients. I saw Dr. Stote at St V's and while he was a little odd he helped me to see the value of hunger and not eating my emotions. My family gatherings are centered around fun laughter and activity not around the table.  If you dont feel good about your situation is there someone else they have you see? Do you react to the therapist because of some uncertainties you feel? Maybe it would help to talk to your therapist and tell her your concerns!

Good luck and God Bless you

Kristie

Thanks, you two. :)

I do see another therapist who has helped me with my food issues. I feel that she helps me more than Dr. Mary does and that Dr. Mary is just a hurdle to get past in order to have my surgery at Community.

Don't get me wrong, Dr. Mary is VERY nice. I'm just not used to her approach toward patients.
