Races anyone?
I am signed up for both the mini and the Geist The mini is the full course 13.1 grueling miles but Geist is only the 5K. I don't feel I am ready yet to do the mini. I have done one 5K already this year so I know I can complete it. I have done several of these over the past 3 years. I walked 2 nights ago probably about 6 mile and my hip was a little sore the next morining but I soon worked out the stiffness.
It looks like the good weather is here and it's the perfect time to get out and get some walking or running in....even bicycling. A great way to start is by training for a 5K. The main thing is that you get up and move. Make a commitment to yourself to exercise thirty minutes per day. It doesn't matter what type of exercise just as long as you get your heart rate up. You will feel much better. You will lose more weight and you'll have more success in keeping the weight off.

I am going to try to do my first ever 5K in Marion on Memorial weekend. I wanted to do Indy but havent been released yet from Dr. Bergman to start jogging again. So I will have to build up to it and hope for the best.
I never liked running in my entire life before... even as a thin teen. But now, its an amazing experience for me.
I am glad to see others of you enjoy it too.
Mini marathon is a bit more than I can handle ..... so far. :)
Duane! I am so impressed with your progress. Very proud of you!!!

I am doing the Geist 5k.... Komen Race for the Cure also offers a 5k...
I do have a question... my trainer said I cannot really start running until my weight is under 200lbs- because of the stress and pressure it puts on my bones... I have been teetering at 211-215 for the last few weeks.... Has anyone else heard this?

I've not really heard of this. I started at 399lbs and waited until I was about 280lbs to 300lbs before I started to run....really more of a jog. Whenever you do start running remember to take it easy. No matter what weight it will take some time to get use to it. Here is a like to a great running program it's called couch to 5K. It works really well. www.c25k.com Good luck to you.
