Who is your surgeon?  I know there is a St Vincents group that meets in Plainfield.  I do not think it really would matter if you were going to a different hospital for your surgery tho.   I will contact one of my friendws on here and ask her if she will let you know where and when they meet.  Good luck.

I am only one, But still, I am one.  I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.  And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do
the something that I can do.

Thanks, My surgeon is Dr. Inman. I  had the paper when the meetin was but I musta lost it. Does anyone know if Dr. Inman does a proximal or distal bypass? I have read that the proximal is not much more than the lap band in that is does not offer as much in the way of mal abosorbtion. I chose the bypass for the reason that its shown to lower blood sugars more rapidly than the lap band but if the proximal dosn't do much more than the lap band whats the difference?

My surgeon is Dr Inman too.  She is great.  and the folks at St Vincents treat you wonderfully.
I do not know anything about the different bypasses.  I had the RNY because of my diabeties.  I was able to get off the insulin right away, then I went onto 1/2 the daily dosage of pills I was talking.  Now my Blood Sugars are in the 90's and I just dropped all meds yesterday.  I stopped the Blood Pressure, Cholestrol and sleep apnea treatments the day I can home from the hospital.  It is wonderful!  I am sure someone on here can answer the questions about proximal or distal.  I am interersted in hearing the answers.

Well Chef Tom, I would start practicing giving up things remember you should be decafinated before surgery it speeds healing. the caffene causes hunger... If you smoke.. stop.. Pepsi's or cokes... just stop them too...  start getting rid of the pastas, breads and sugars...

Just a thought...  Hey and GOOD FOR YOU!!!

Plainfield support groups meet the second Thursday of the month from 7-8:30 at a church off of Dan Jones, but I can't for the life of me remember the name. If you call the bariatric center, they can tell you. It's a great group and I'm there frequently.

As for the difference between prox/distal, not sure what Dr. Inman does. I'm sure her office could tell you if you call. Don't start any diets, aside of cutting back on sugars and caffeine to prepare your body for the changes.

Good luck and congrats.

Thanks for the info. I wont have trouble givin up caffeine cause I dont use it anyway. No sugars either cause of diabeties. I do have another question though, I am a chef and was wonderin if anyone knows of any other chefs in the area that have undergone this. This is my biggest fear. They say you have to change your relationship with food, kinda hard for a chef.

There is Chef Woody. He is a chef and both he and his wife had bariatric surgery. I believe his last name is Duncan, his wife's name is Laura. I don't know if they are on this board or not. But I do know they are on the wlsindy.com board. Chef Woody has a new support group at Carmel Hospital on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. We have had it only one time and you need to be 6 months post op to go to it.

Let me start by saying Welcome, I go to the plainfield support groups too and like the previous poster I can't remember the name but it is the first one on the left hand side if you are on dan jones road coming from 40. As far as the new relationship with food goes, it is true you do end up with a new relationship but it is a much BETTER one and that is really the way that you need to look at it.  It will be different but better. Good Luck on your upcoming wls.  Hope to see you at the next group meeting on March 11 in plainfield.
