angry at primary care

I am seven months post op and was told last week by Dr. Huse that I am doing great. I told him I was seeing a new primary care as my old one retired.  He wished me luck little did i know how true that would become.

I saw the primary today and I have to say I WONT be going back. I will find another one. She told me that my diet was wrong for me...I reminded her three times I had bariatric surgery. She wants to put me on carbs, no proteins except for two times a week, maple syrup for sweetener if i need it, and no milk, no protein shakes but her own blend, and no cheese. I informed her I had a bariatric diet and it has been really successful and I would not stray from it. I am 7 months out and have lost 85 lbs...30 inches. She told me that was fine for my bari surgeon but  not for her.   I came out of there in tears. I will NOT go back.  She told me I must buy a juicer...suggested two products and where to buy them and to go to a health food store for a list of supplements to take. I will NOT as I said go back.

Has anyone else had this trouble and do you have any thoughts?

She said...WHAT!? What a pompus nitwit. My PCP defers to my surgeon on diet stuff, and calls my surgeons office when prescribing anything. Also faxes copies of bloodwork/apointment notes etc.  That's what a GOOD PCP should be doing for a wls patient. Find a new one. She'll sabotage your success.

Thanks everyone. I was so upset when I wrote that. I have called my insurance company and informed them I wont be going to her and the reasons. They assured me that going to someone else was in my best interest too. I will keep you posted

Hummm, Have you thought of NOT going back?? LOL!!

I was a year out and went to Hendricks County Hospital for my knee replacement.. I aregued DAILY on the phone with the dietition and then in person when she said I wasnt eatting right. she sent me cookies...apples and almost stood there insisiting I eat a whole banana..I told her I was'nt wasteing the room on something so wrong for me. that she shoulod send me a cheese stick to snack on or at least a slice of chees and a glass of milk.. I had to just send the food back everytime.

Sometimes these people just dont get it. Best of luck to you.. by the way MY PCP was very supportive...

My family doctor also defers to the bariatrician/dietician on these matters. In fact I asked him (when informed I won't see Dr. Inman anymore) if I could just have him read my labs for me, and he said he thought I should follow-up with Dr. Gomez as St. V. wanted. Your insurance invested alot in your surgery and they will want you to "get it right". I'm sure they will not balk at your switching doctors.
