How long is one off work after lap band or RNY?
I took off 8 weeks, I was lucky and it was all paid by my employer. I was glad I did becasue my recovery seems a bit slower and I was so tired I never would have made it through an 8 hour day, even though I have a desk job.
Some people only take a week off. I think the average time off is a couple of week, of course depends on your job duties as well.

I'm a RN, work 12 hour shifts, and took 4 weeks off. I needed every bit of it because I really battled dehydration post op and was in/out of the hospital a few times.

I had RNY laproscopically and went back to work after 7 days. I am an accountant and could sit at my desk and get up and move around when I needed. So, although I was tired... I made it back and was just fine. I have had no real complications other than dehydration from time to time. I would have probably taken two weeks if I had the time coming for vacation. But, I had just gotten back from my honeymoon 2 weeks before my surgery.
Good luck to you!

My first surgery I took the full 6 weeks off and went crazy, when I had the surgery done this past July I was off for 2 weeks and was able to go back to work witht he restrictions that I could not lift more then 10 lbs. I was back working out at the gym by week 3 this last time. It varies from person to person on how fast they heal. I had so much energy my surgery prescribed sleeping pills because I was going pretty much 24/7. It is differnt now that I am 6 months out, I still have alot of energy but not like in the begining.

Lynn,
I had the lap band and went back to work the next day after my surgery. I am an RN too, but I had a desk job at the time. In my current position as a staff nurse, I think I would have taken a couple of weeks off. I felt pretty much normal after a week, but the doc didn't want me lifting for 2 weeks.

I did the same thing. But I also work from home as a Social Media Consultant. So when I would get overtired (mentally more so than physically), I could rest in the recliner with my laptop on a TV tray to answer any emails about my online communities that needed urgent attention.
And -- yes -- it depends a large part on the type of job you have, your lifting requirements and everyone is different on their ability to tolerate pain/discomfort.
