How to know if staples are pulled??
Hi all,
Merry Christmas.........
I have been through the ringer since my first surgery Nov. 17- 09. Well I had a Laproscopic RNY on the Tuesday 17th, went home Thursday and had a horrible night of sickness, so went back in on Friday, they did a scan and had to do surgery again that night due to a twisted bowel. Well that weekend I still was unable to keep anything going down so they put a nose tube in on Sunday ( that hurt so bad ) kept that in for 8 days while in the hospital at St.V's. Dr Inman wanted to see if maybe it was because of so much swelling that I was having problems and that is why I had it in for so long. Well when finally they took it out I ended up vomiting 5 times all night/morning at least a half a basin of foul smelling stuff. Who knows where it was coming from since I hadnt eaten in a couple weeks. So when Dr Inman came in early morning and saw my condition she cancelled Appts and I had another surgery that morning, this time she opened me up to refix the pouch. So yup, 3 surgery's in a couple weeks. I must say it has been rough. I came home like 5 days later, and ended back in a few days later due to an infection of the incision site and had some IV antibiotics for a couple days. Well, home again for a week and half and I think maybe I did to much for the x-mas day. Does anyone know what it feels like if the staples get pulled? My stomach feels like it is pinching or something. I cant imagine another thing to go wrong with this surgery. I ended up while being in the hospital for so long, having many thoughts of why I did it and wish I hadnt. I even cried at the Doctors office when I had to go there for them to check the infection. I had just had enough.
It is nice that I am down 30 pounds allready, but I am having a hard time getting my protein in. Even though I do have a g-tube, I still cant seem to get much down and I am feeling pretty tired and energyless.
Sorrry so long. But if anyone can let me know how it may feel about the staples I would appreciate it.......Thanks..............Keri

Keri,
I have no idea how it feels to pull your staples but anything out of the ordinary or sudden, you should contact your surgeon's office about, especially given the problems you've experienced. I don't know why some of us have the luck that we do...maybe so we can look someone straight in the eye and say with all honesty that this surgery is anything BUT an easy way to weight loss. I think my surgery count since my RNY is close to 20 (in ~5 years), also over 20 endoscopies, and countless tests. Most of the time, I do feel like it was worth it but this stuff definately is not for wimps.
Best of luck...
Sherri
ps..NO more over-doing it! Santa will just have to get it done for you or it have to wait!
