Received insurance approval yesterday, didn't sleep much last night.
I don't know if it was because I was excited....or nervous after reading a string yesterday with people going back and forth about which type of procedure to have. Someone asked me after aqua aerobics last night why I was having the RNY over a lap band. I had no problem answering that but then I kept remembering all of the debate about the DS and the RNY and started doubting my decision. All of the revisions and the permanent change to my insides.... I want so much to be an "after" but now I'm having some fears and doubts. Does everyone go through that?

I didn't -- mainly because the Lap Band was out of the question for me due to having Lupus.
But I will say that I talked to a LOT of people who had different procedures and found out why they chose one over the other -- and, more importantly -- if they had it to do all over again, would they?? Without exception, the answer to that last question was a resounding "yes".
Even then, I read everything I could find about the Lap RNY before even going to the informational session to get the paperwork to start the process. It was already a "done deal" in my mind when I turned in the paperwork. The permanent revisions inside didn't bother me because I knew it was going to take something that drastic for me to finally take control of my health by having the surgery.
Now is the time to start making a list of questions and concerns you may have to ask Dr. Throop -- before your first appointment with him. He can relieve a lot of your fears and anxieties.

Thanks. I was doing that last night actually (writing down questions for Dr Throup). Reread through the whole binder Corey gave me and started listing questions. I thought I had my mind made up til I was reading some of the posts last night. I KNOW I want to have the surgery. I don't know why the banter on here last night was making me 2nd guess my decision.

I went to my first appointment with my surgeon having my mind set on the lapband. After meeting with my surgeon and discussing some of my issues and concerns I left there completely comfortable and ready for the RNY. I have never looked back. Your surgeon will help you decide which surgery will work best for your lifestyle.

33 lbs lost prior to surgery!
Thanks, Jeannie. There was this thread last night about the DS and how that was the best thing out there and I started to wonder if I should wait and go somewhere else that does that. My surgeon just does the RNY and the lapband. I already had my mind made up about the RNY. Anyway, I feel better about it now. I'm sure I will feel even better after talking to Dr. Throop.

Hi -
Everyone is different. What's right for you isn't for the next person. I find this situation rather interesting:
I had an RNY 2 1/2 years ago and it's been a rip-roaring success. Relatively few bumps in the road for me........I'm down 120lbs still with no regain and went from busting out of a size 22/24 down to a 2. I did not want the Lapband because it could be reversed/removed if I changed my mind, I might not be able to control myself to avoid the sugar if I knew dumping wasn't an issue....and I was very uncomfortable with the idea of all that plastic in me... forever.....
However - a friend just had the Realize band for basically the exact reasons I wouldn't have it......she is comforted by the ability to have it removed, she wants the option to still have sugar occassionaly, did not want to deal with the possibility of dumping and had no concerns about the plastic....she was far more concerned about having the intestines cut........and that part didn't bother me at all.....
Consider the pros and cons with each procedure and talk to your surgeon about what he/she believes will give you the best outcome given your state of health. Be very honest with yourself about how compliant you will be post op. I was not to be trusted with chocolate cake, so the terror of a dumping episode has kept me from it and all other sugar for 2 1/2 years. If I'd had the band, I know I would not have been successful at that.
And the ONLY thing I would change about my surgery is that I'd have had it 10 years earlier.
