all that work for nothing.....
Spent a lot of time yesterday finishing up Christmas cards. Took a big packet of mail to the post office and put it in their collection box. Mind you, this was at the PO - not on a street corner.
There was also a sympathy card in there for the family of a recently deceased friend, and a congratulations card for a co worker with a new baby.
This man rings my doorbell this afternoon, and hands me a bag with my mail in it!!!
The cards are out of the envelopes, soggy and torn. Some of the envelopes were in there as well, ripped to shreds. The stamps had not even been cancelled.
He found them scattered on the street in his subdivision, a few streets over from the PO.
It's obvious that someone was going through them looking for money or gift cards. Thank my lucky stars there wasn't any in there. I was going to tuck in a gift card for my co-worker, but decided I would just give it to her next time I see her.
So - I have no clue except for the two torn envelopes who isn't going to get a Christmas card from me this year. So - if I had your address, and you don't get one, I am truly sorry.
I called the PO and they were getting ready to close. The Postmaster wants me to bring everything in tomorrow so that they can take a look. Ugh. Wonder if they'll reimburse me for the stamps? There's about 20 cards in there. Wonder if the rest of my mail will get where it's going. No bills - whew, but 3 Netflix movies were mailed at the same time. Damn!!!!

It was the Camby PO. I'm supposed to go in tomorrow and bring the remnants of the mail to show them.
It's obvious they were looking for money or gift cards. There were only 2 envelopes, and they were ripped open. All the other cards were out of the envelopes. I am extremely pissed.
I am out the money for the stamps, plus I'll have to repurchase cards for the new baby and the sympathy card.
Will let you know what the PO says tomorrow. The postmaster said that perhaps the mail was going to be returned for insufficient postage. BS - they were cards - with nothing in them. Each was stamped. The envelopes are missing!!

That stinks, sorry Chris. Did you call Netflix to let them know just in case your movies don't arrive.

OMGosh Christie that is a horrible story. We all take it for granted that we can drop our things in the PO box and feel safe and secure that they will make it to their intended destination in a timely manner. I hate that we live in such a time that we can't even trust leaving our things in a PO box anymore. Hopefully the PO is kind enough to help you out with this issue.
Thanks for the warning and also the rave for Netflix, I have been considering them for my hubby and son so you definated have helped to sway me.

Christie,
It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to send out cards this year. But...I received one (from Jan...who lives in Waterloo, Indiana) and the envelope was obviously ripped open. There was a postal message stamped on it stating 'Received unselaed at Fort Wayne IN 46802'. I'd say that Indiana has a huge postal problem this year with their postal employees. Have you considered calling a news station about it? I think you should.

If it makes you feel any better, I received your card today, all in one piece and it was beautiful. Thanks!
