LOW BLOOD SUGAR
I'm over 5 yr post op and have been hypoglycemic since I was about 18 months post-op. According to my endocrinologist, it's fairly common for post-ops. Mine is controlled by watching my diet. I also carry glycine tablets with me just in case I should need them (they do not cause me to dump). To control it by diet, try to minimize the carbs. We are all pretty good a****ching the sugars but we tend to forget that carbs turns into sugars in our bodies. When we eat carbs (for me, potatoes is a huge culprit), as soon as they turn into sugar, it causes a spike in our sugars so the body pours out the insulin to combat it. Problem is, it pours out more insulin than is needed. The solution isn't to eat enough carbs to balance it but rather, be careful of eating the triggers so you don't get the insulin dump to begin with.
Your dietician can help you to learn how to control this. The first thing though is to figure out what your triggers are...and then avoid them. Also, I would really recommend your getting some of the glycine tablets.

Hi -
I'm 2 1/2 years post op and I have episodes of this when I eat too much fruit at once. I don't buy a lot for home but when I travel for work and the breakfast buffet has fresh fruit - it's a treat.......well....sitting & talking and not paying attention....and thus grazing on what ended up being a a whole kiwi and a few chunks of fantastic pineapple nearly did me in. I also got caught once at a function with a fruit tray - - and only found out later - the hard way - - that the pineapple had been canned and not in juice.....light syrup and that nearly had me under the table.
I agree with the other poster -- pay attention to what the triggers are and you'll have to watch your diet but if you are doing that and "behaving" and you're still having a lot of episodes you should definitely see your doctor.
