sleeve gastrectomy & insurance
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum. I've just begun the process for getting approved for WLS. There's a problem-- insurance.
I believe the vertical sleeve would work best for me. I know someone who had that surgery and she's done wonderfully. Frankly, I'm a bit scared of the RNY. Anyway, I just found out my inusrance, Anthem, considers the sleeve "experimental" even though it's been done for years and has weight loss results comparable to RNY. If it is within my means, I'm perfectly willing to seek out and pay for secondary insurance that will cover the sleeve.
Has anyone here had any luck in convincing your insurance company to cover the sleeve? Any recommendations for insurance coverage that will cover the sleeve?
Thanks

from what i have heard-- MOST insurance dont cover the sleeve. have you done any research into the duodenal switch. your surgeon does it, she did mine. and if medicaid and medicare will cover it then MOST other insurances will as well. join us on the duodenal switch forum and check out a really great surgery. best of luck.
