Is it safe to take over the counter cold/flu medicine?
Of course, standard disclaimer... ask your MD when in doubt.
That being said, I have had no problem using cold/cough syrups (which I prefer to pills). I always am careful to get diabetic formulas though, because some are laced with sugars. The sugars would be very absorbable in a liquid form and could cause dumping.

NyQuil has saved me many trips to my pcp. With it though, I take almost half the adult dosage and make sure it's at bedtime because it's going to knock my butt out. Our bodies may not asorb vitamins from food as well but mine sure does asorb liquid meds quickly. Stay clear of NSaids and you should be fine.
