Getting to know you!
Hi all,
My name is Jonna and I live in on the East side of Evansville, IN. I am well on my way to WLS (bypass). I have gone through all the steps the insurance asked for. The doctors office is sending the letter of medical necessity to my insurance this week. So now the waiting game begins.
I am 45 years old, married to my best friend John for 22 years. We have two kiddos, Emily (21) and Robert (17). They are both into sports Emily plays softball and Robert soccer. So, I have my fair share of bleacher butt! I have been working my my weight all my life. My highest weight was 350. Did I just write that???? I would have never told anyone my weight before. Like they just couldn't look at me and tell I was overweight. LOL! I have lost down to 311. Drs. would like me to get down to 300 pre surgury. I have lots of questions and have learned sooo much on this site. I am going throught Deaconess Weight Loss Center. I have not seen too many post on this site, who is using Deaconess.
Thanks to all of you who post your experiences and give such awesome advise. I look forward to taking my weight loss journey with you.
As you have probably seen from the previous post I'm Vanessa and live in Evansville too. Although I had my surgery at St Mary's and with Dr Throop, I know Dr Haughn and he is an excellent Doc. I am equally as sure that Deaconess is a fine place to have surgery at! All the doctors at Evansville Surgical Associates practice pretty much at both hospitals.
Hope you hear from your insurance soon and from that point things will move quickly. Good luck and keep in touch!
Just like Vanessa I am from Evansville also. I live on the east side as you said you did. I am going with St. Marys and Dr. Throop is doing my surgery. I am at the same waiting time as you. I am just waiting on my insurance to get my appointment for the Surgeon. I am so excited and scared at the same time!!! I wished I had kids but it was not in the cards for me. I have 2 rotties (Bammer and Bailey) One Great Dane (Bogart) and 3 birds African Grey (China) Blue front Amazon (Cheek'O) and a Sun Conure (Tudy). I call my Great Dane my weight lose dog, he is the newest to the bunch and he is suppose to walk me! lololololol
I live on N. Burkhardt past Comb Nursery. If you ever want to walk let me know. Vanessa has mentioned that we might walk our Danes after my surgery. Good luck and keep me posted my email is
[email protected]
Hope to hear from you

I'm Deb and I'm in the Evansville area as well. I actually live in Newburgh but work in Evansville and am going to St Mary's. My husband and I moved here in August. He was transferred here from St Louis. Haven't really met anyone here yet. My husband and I have been married for 32 years and we are empty nesters. We have five grown kids and 7 grandkids but none of them live around here.
Jonna I'm almost in the exact same stage as you as far as the surgery goes. I have my last appt with the dr on Wednesday, 11/25 and also my last behavioral class that day before they can submit for insurance approval. They are planning to do that next week. Not sure how long the approval will take but they said the surgeon is scheduling six weeks out now, so I guess my surgery won't be til after the first of the year. I'm really excited but also nervous too.
My name is Erin Boyll, and its great to meet all of you. I am 31 years old and live in Terre Haute. I go to school full time at Saint Mary of the Woods College, and will be graduating in about a year and a half with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. My husband Ryan and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary, and we have a very bright and precocious 21/2 year old daughter named Regan.
I am just starting my WLS journey. I have my initial consultation scheduled with Dr. Jones at St.Vincent October 21st. I have over 200 pounds to lose, and I am determined to do whatever it takes to lose it for the sake of my health and happiness. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know all of you better and making some great friends on this site!
My name is Jacqui. I'm 40. My husband, Troy, and I had our 13th wedding anniversary yesterday. He's the love of my life. A lot of the gals on here call him Toby because they think he looks like Toby Keith. We have a beautiful, smart and talented (and SPOILED) 8 year old daughter who lights up our lives. All I know is I am blessed beyond what I deserve.
I had my RNY on October 26, 2007 by Dr. Diaz in Carmel and have lost 140lbs. I still weigh 181 lbs though and would love to lose another 31 lbs but it just doesn't want to go anywhere. My size is good (some 10s some 12s) but my weight is frustrating!
I lost a lot of my hair after my surgery and it grew back extremely curly. It's nearly two years now and it's growing out straight again. I was told it's a reaction to the anethesia but who knows?
I host a gathering of sorts each summer down here at Holiday World/Splashin' Safari. We've done it two years now and it's been well attended and so much fun both times! I plan to do it again in 2010.
The people on this site are super special and mean the world to me. I wish I could get on here more.
Oodles of love and smooches,
Jacqui
I'm Amy Henderson, and I live in Kokomo. I had my RNY on April 23, 2008 with Dr Evanson at St V's Carmel. At my highest (non pregnant) weight I was 262 or so, my official pre op weight was 241-ish, and I'm now bouncing between 150-155, and have been since Christmas Eve 2008. I'm 38, and have been married 8 1/2 years to Darrell. We have two daughters, Emily is 6 1/2 and Molly is 5 1/2, and they keep me busy! I've been a SAHM of sorts since Emily was born, but I've worked part time in one capacity or another for the last 5 years. Right now I'm a church secretary/bookkeeper one morning a week and a Creative Partner for Initials, Inc (home party business, purse parties! ). I'm also going back to substitute teaching 3 days a week at my girls' school, and possibly returning to college in January. I have a BA in Communications and 3 semesters towards my El Ed license...just 3 more to go and I'll be a teacher.
Since my WLS I have rediscovered LIFE and I wouldn't trade this for anything!! I had hernia repair surgery Aug 4, and was hoping to have a panniculectomy with it, but insurance said no. I'll get the documentation lined up and try again next year. Exercise has become one of my favorite things to do, and amazingly enough, I love running! I entered my first 5K October 2008 and finished in about 45 minutes. Ran a 4 mile race in June of this year in 42 minutes, then finished a 5K last Friday night in 33 minutes. Woohoo!!! Call me crazy, but I've also registered for the 2010 Indy Mini Marathon, and I hope to finish in under 3 hours. Oy. I'm down to a size 8 in most things, which blows my mind...I wore size 20 jeans to the hospital the day of surgery, and at my biggest was in a 24. Unreal.
Highest/Day of Surgery/Current (8/15/09)/Goal (mine)
262/240/150/145ish
My name is Leigh Ann, I am 32 and have three children 12,8, and 5. I am a single mom and work in Indianapolis for the Department of Veteran Affairs. I live in Bunker Hill (between Peru and Kokomo). I had my surgery on March 12, 2008 and have lost 174lbs since. I started this journey in a size 32 and am now down to a 12 and some 10's. Having weightloss surgery was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I feel great and enjoy things so much more. Although I don't eat like I use to, but I make up for it, shopping for clothes (at garage sales and Goodwill). I don't post much but am a daily lurker. I love getting to know you all and learn of your progresses.
Thank you for your great support.

The beauty of a woman is not seen through what she wears. It is seen through how she carries herself and the way she doesn’t allow herself to settle. Don’t ever let anyone take for granted the beauty that is within you. Stand firm and know that you’re a wonderful person. Always remember your value and respect yourself. I’m so blessed to have you in my life. Sometimes we all need to be reminded how special we really are!
