antidepressants....HELP!!!

I am facing a problem that only you guys can help me with.  We get our health insurance through Troy's job.  Beginning October 1, we no longer have a prescription plan.  Troy's meds are all on the Wal-mart $4 list so we're not too worried about him.  I only take one prescription med which is my effexor AR.  I was on celexa before my surgery but my doctor changed me to effexor because it supposedly has a better absorption rate with bariatric surgery.  It's a fairly new drug so it isn't on the list of "cheap" drugs.  It will be over $150 per month if I continue to use it.

I'm wondering if any of you are on an antidepressant that is on the $4 list and how it works for you.  I've dealt with depression for many, many years and don't want to go without my meds.  Please help me (and Troy!).

Thanks so much,
Jacqui

Check with the pharmacist.  I read somewhere ( I'm trying to find it) that it will be going generic in 2010.  The regular Effexor is now generic.  The pharmacist told me I could take it, but would have to take more than 1 time a day.

Jacqui,

I feel your pain. Even with coverage, copays add up. I don't think the Effexor generic would be old enough to be on the "cheap" lists. I have gotten onto "cheapies". I take generic celexa. it's $4 a month at either Wal-mart or Kroger. I have to take it twice a day to get maximum absorbtion, which means I actually have to pay $8 a month, because they consider that more than the standard dosage. Still, very cost efficient for me!!! Good luck.

I'm on Celexa too.  I'm only six weeks out, but I haven't noticed any issues.  The doctor didn't say anything to me either about it.

Yes, you could call a pharmacy and ask them what you might use to sustitute or your doctor should have samples he can give you. I take paxil and it is only $4. It's the second one I've tried and I like it. Doc put me on lexapro after surgery but, it eventually stopped working.
Good Luck!

Maybe you could get switched to one that you can crush??  I used to have to crush pills for my youngest son and give them to him in applesauce.
