Frustrated & Confused

Next week I will have completed my 6 months of nutrition and doc appointments.  Exciting...yes.  However I am not sure now where to go for surgery.  I felt secure in my decision until a medical professional told me I should look elsewhere.(less complications)  I have an appt. Friday with Dr. Gomez and I plan to make an appt. with Dr. Lindsay in the next few weeks.  Is there anyway to find truely unbiased opinions about bariatric surgeons?  I have spent tons of time reading reviews, but most people have nothing but praise for their doctors.  I would appreciate any help.  Personally I really like Dr. Lindsay, However Dr. Gomez will probably get me in on a better schedule.  The main thing is that I want the best possible doctor.

Hey Sherry...I'm sorry you're having a hard time deciding on a doctor.  Good for you for completing your 6 months though!

I agree that most people love their surgeons-so if you want to find the best one for you-ask to set up consultations with the ones you're interested in.  You want to find the person YOU are comfortable with.  Chosing a doctor and his/her facility isn't one to take lightly.

Good luck!  You've come this far-just keep pushing through!

BTW...I live in Franklin as well :).

I have two friends who have used Dr Lindsey (we are over in Martinsville).  Both have really liked her, however they have complined about after care.  My one friend who has had her RNY with Dr Lindsey was not very educated on nutrition or given very clear instructions on her new pouch.  Comparing what she knows and what I know she really feels cheated.  So I guess my point is there is a lot more to your surgeons office than just surgery itself.

My other friend is in the process of a revision from lap band to RNY with Dr Lindsey.  Dr Lindsey is doing it with the understanding that if she gets in there and thinks the RNY is too risky she will only remove the band.  I really dont think her scheduling takes all that long, my friends surgery seemed to move really quickly after her six months was up.  And my Lap Band friend is moving right along also. However, I think a good solid doctor is worth waiting for.

I also wanted to add that I think most surgeons offices will be happy to give your their doc's stats on the phone.  If you are a numbers person and are wanting numbers I would call a bunch of offices and ask for stats.

I know my surgeons office was proud to tell me that they have had one death in 800 surgeries due to a blood clot.  The patient was pron to blood clots and took the risk anyway.  This was the statistic that helped me choose my surgeon.

It is good to know someone in Franklin! Do you still attend groups?  If so which ones?

I think any of the docs at St V's would be good.  They have great aftercare too.

Thank you all for your thoughts.  It makes a lot of sense to know what the aftercare will be like.  I have heard that in some of the groups I have attended.  Praying I make the right choice.
