What's Next???
i got home tuesday after my WLS on monday...
dr jones said that my surgery was one of the best and easiest ones she's ever done....the nursing staff said they had never had a patient like me...i was up (on my own) before the nurses even came in and was walking the halls....i walked 3.25 miles the night of my surgery...whoooooooHOOOOOOOO
BUT
i am a little overwhelmed right now.....
i feel pukey!!! don't like the pheraghan (makes me pass out)...
too naucious to even get out and walk....i have found that green mint tea helps a little with the nausea.
i am sooooooooo sick right now that i can barely get 20 ounces of fluid down a day!!!! haven't started my protein shakes yet (that will happen on saturday)....this evening, i switched to full liquids, the yogurt went ok, but the refried beans was horrific!!!!
hard for me to get all of my meds in b/c when i went into the hosp, i was taking 21 meds a day...i am down 20, but up7 (so that's 27 pills a day)...and they told me i had to take 'em one @ a time and only every 30 minutes....WTF are they thinking...i tried that the first night i was home and it was horrible...i had to set my kitchen timer and wake up every 25 minutes or so...today i started taking the small ones 2-3 @ a time....
i am soooooooooooo full of meds that i can barely get 1 ounce of food down and not much fluid (as i mentioned above)....
sooooooooo

Pam are you still taking the pain meds? If you are try using just tylenol and see if that helps with the nausea.
I have been taking pills (med sized ones) two at a time since the day I got home, I hate to pass on information that is contrary to what your surgeon wants for you but 27 pills half an hour apart sounds impossible. Its probably better to take them a couple at a time than it is to skip any.
I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to eat much, that will come with time. Just keep trying to get your liquids in as you don't want to become dehydrated.

33 lbs lost prior to surgery!
Hey Pammie! I don't know what kind of pain meds you got - I had liquid Lortab. That stuff tasted like rocket fuel, and made me nauseous. I was better when I stopped it and just went to Tylenol.
I took my pills 2-3 at a time from my first day home. Otherwise, you'd never get 'em all in! The big ones were the only ones I'd take one at a time.
Be sure to get your water in - not getting enough will make you nauseous also.
Hang in there - it gets better!!

thanks for the info guys
i haven't had anything for pain since tuesday morning when i was still in the hospital...i'm afraid that the liquid loratab will make me feel even yukier and to be honest....i really don't have any pain (prolly my high tolerance for pain). the big problem is nausea and gas!!!! i knew i was gonna have gas, but i would LOVE to be able to have a BM....i am MISERABLE in that aspect...
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
not going potty for several days can make one VERY *****y!!! LOL
im gonna try to increase my fluid intake more today...yesterday, i took in a couple more ounces than i did on wednesday...so maybe i will just gradually get better on the fluid intake....on that note, a question for ya'll??? how many ounces of fluid in a popsicle? a cupful of ice? it seems that i can get ice down MUCH easier than any other "fluid"...
do i count my "full liquids" toward my fluid intake? like my SF apple sauce, yogurt, etc?
HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP????
hugs and much love

I never counted any of my full solids as liquid. The popsicles I have are 1 1/2 ounces. What I did I wasted one put it in a one cup measuring cup and then melted it in the microwave. You could do the same with the ice also. just put it in a measuring cup that has the ounces on it in increments of one and then melt it in the microwave or just let it set on the counter until it melts.
Welcome to the losing bench Pam, I understand the nausea I had it pretty bad when I came home, just keep try to get your fluids in. I am like the rest of them, I take my large pills one at a time and my smaller ones 2-3 at a time. I am up to 22 pills a day, so I understand.
Keep us posted, love you girlie.

Pam, I struggled with nausea and dehydration pretty bad after surgery. I ended up in the ER twice and was admitted once within a week of surgery. They highly encouraged me to do warm fluids (particularly peppermint tea) as the warm decreases swelling around the pouch and often makes it easier to drink and the peppermint helps with nausea. It worked wonders for me. Hang in there and just sip. I wouldn't worry so much about the full liquids until you are getting your fluids in. And don't even start to worry about the protein until you're getting fluids in first! Hang in there.
