does anyone have a list of medications that can't be taken
I don't have a specific list either but...
Anything time released.
Any NSaids. That includes iboprofin, and many other anti-inflamatories, both otc and scripts.
Anything which will not dissolve in water within 5 minutes. Tablets will dissolve. Capsules don't (most time release meds are capsules)..
Be careful with anything that has alcohol in it (like NyQuil). Don't take it unless/until you are ready to go right to bed. I would really advise that you begin with HALF the adult dose. Wait a half hour and if you need the other half (and are still concious), then take the rest.
Don't drive after taking ANYTHING that says it 'may' cause drowsiness until you are absolutely sure how it effects you post-op.
The more you can stick to liquids, chewables, melt-aways, and tablets, the better effect the med will have with you. Because the meds don't have far to travel to get to our intestines..and our bloodstream....we usually feel the effects much quicker with a much smaller dose.
If in doubt of a med, call your surgeon's nurse and talk with her/him about it specifically.
