OMG, I'm dying here. (Warning, TMI!!)
Melissa,
With you being pregnant, I'd definately contact your OB/GYN's office before you take any meds. You might would want to ask them if herbal teas are ok. Before all this with my intestine stuff, I fought constipation also. I had tried the colace and other over-the-counter remedies to no avail..unless I went through a bottle a week. I did finally find something that worked. At Meijer's, it's called Smooth Move tea. At Walmart, it's called Dieter's Tea. Both of them are a decaffinated herbal tea. With either of them, I would fix me a cup of hot tea before bed and the next morning, I was back on track. It didn't cause cramping, sweats, or 'oops' the way that alot of laxatives can do.
You will probably be told this (or have been) but a terrific prevenative measure is to up your fiber. Most Americans get plenty of carbs, but we don't check to see how many of those carbs are fiber. My nut had told me to be sure to get a minimum of 30 g a day. That is when I started buying Fiber One cereal (the original). It is 28 g of fiber per cup. I'd munch on it (dry) in the evening like it was popcorn. The other 2+ g was easy enough gotten from veggies. While this didn't totally take away the constipation, it did reduce how many nights a week I was drinking my 'special' hot tea.

Hmmm....I think there is about one giggabyte per age of year...and 5 gb per surgery..10 gb per complication and 20 gb per coma. That's a heck of alot of memory! Now if only I could access it easier than having to be a hacker half of the time! Unfortunately, that is also how I came about all that knowledge..the school of hard knocks is wonderful for that...

Melissa,
My surgeon prescribed Miralax (it wasn't over the counter yet) because it was not a stimulent and is non-addictive. I took it every day for about 15 months after my surgery. It was just part of my morning routine like taking my vitamins. When my body finally started working like it should I just stopped taking it and I didn't have any after affects. Call your OB doc before starting any meds. You are taking for two now!
