My Turn to Ask For Prayers / Nurses Advise Pleaase

I think I posted on Monday that my son was not feeling well. I took him to the Doc on Monday and was told he had bronchitis, he was given a steroid, antibiotic and robutussin w/codine for the cough.  He has not improved at all so today I called the Doc and was intructed to bring him back in because he should be seeing some improvement. 
His cough is horrible, he can barely stop long enough to get his breath.  So the doc listens to his chest and says "He has a heart murmer".  WTF he has been to the doc once a year for annual check ups and has never had a heart murmer "How can that be"?  The doc ordered a chest X-ray and an ecocardiogram, the Xray was done today, the eco will be done tomorrow evening.  I think we will then see the doc on Fri for the results of the tests.  The doc wants to see if the cough is causing swelling in his lungs and the lungs are pushing on the heart or if there is something going on with his heart that is causing his cough. 
I am so scared right now, I ask you all to please say a prayer for my guy.  Any of you nurses familiar with this sort of thing?

Jeannie, I am praying..... but I have had a murmer for 30 years or so.. I keep a strip of my EKG to prove I have a WICKED BEAT IN THERE... Not saying there is nothing wrong with your son...I am leaving him in Gods hands.. and you are  there also.. US Moms have to stick together.

How old is your son? Many people live with a heart mumur without any problems. It sounds like your Dr. is on top of things. I hate waiting for tests and then having to wait for test results. It is agony to wait. I will be praying for your son. Please keep us informed. Wendy

I understand all to well the hurry up and wait game. It sucks and I personally suck @ it, especially when my baby is involved.
Please let us know what happens with his tests, ok?

My son is 15.  I know people live long healthy lives with murmers, my oldest son was born with one and out grew it.  My grandma has one and she is 82.  I think the part that freaks me out is the doc's concern that something might be wrong with his heart causing him to cough.  The only experience I have with this is with my Grandpa, he had a horrible cough.  The doc's tried everything to make his cough calm down and couldn't ..it was cancer.  My son is on four meds and right at this moment I can hear him coughing his head off instead of sleeping.  I feel so helpless in this situation. 

Pam I was thinking of your son when I was typing my original post.  I never seen an update on him are you still waiting?

I will be thinking and praying for him as i know this is a scarey thing to even think about. Dont mean to be so down on em but i hope you didnt take him to Morgan Hosptial in Martinsville? they have been known to misdiagnose before. Co worker of mines son who is 16 having the same couging stuff already this school year. 
 

AMEN about Martinsville Hospital!! I spent a year there one month... I was in a wreck and had to stay a month in traction... I switched bone specialists the minute I got out!!!

i was like WTFFFFFFFFF are you talking about....
they wanted to remind me that he had his colon "just" checked in April and it was OK then....
but I know how you feel...
helpless like you can't help your own child...
i HATE that feeling!!!
