hair loss
It is my understanding that hair loss is most prevalent during months 3 - 6.
I started shedding lots of hair around month three and as quickly as it began it stopped right around my six month surgiversary. It was recommended to me that a short hair cut helps conceal hair loss better so I went short, although I am really lucky that I have extra extra thick hair.

33 lbs lost prior to surgery!
Mine occurred from about months 3-6, not so bad now. Biotin never really worked for me either. I was told to increase your protein when you saw the loss beginning. Hang in there, it does pass.

My hair loss was greatest from months 3-6, then over the winter it really started coming back. My hairstylist thinks it's now back to "normal" but she only cut it once or twice before my surgery. My husband says it's nowhere near as thick, but she also razor cuts it now, which cuts down on how thick it is. Me, I just love it now!! I did get it cut short (it was midway down my back) when it was really thinning, and have kept it short ever since.
I also quit taking Biotin around the 6 month mark, but never noticed a marked change in my nails either...I was taking 2-3/day I think.
