I am having surgery at 8:00 next Tuesday morning, my question is should I have my kids come and see me after school or will i be too out of it?  It would be close to 5 by the time they could get there...just asking opinions...

Thanks!

Most hospitals have you up and walking within a few hours of you being put in your room.  Provided your children aren't real young...who might would get scared seeing their parent not feeling their best, you should be good to go with seeing them the same day. That said though, sh*t happens so you might want to plan to keep Day 1 all about recouping and use Day 2 to introduce your kids to the new you. My daughter and husband are the first 2 faces I see after I wake up from surgery...but...my daughter is 28.

My son is 15, he went with myself and my hubby to the hospital the morning of my surgery.  If I had it to do over, I would make other arrangements for him.   It was a long boring day for him.  Then I had a reaction to the pain meds, it wasn't a big deal but it made me throw up blood and scared the crap out of my kid and my hubby.  Luckily my oldest son lives close to the hospital so we were able to call him and have him come take my 15 year old home with him while I recovered.  I say if you can find a happy place for your children let them stay there.

I waited til the second day in the evening to see my son and he is 4 years old.  I too would advise you to wait until sometime after the first day.  Good luck with your surgery and enjoy the ride ~~~
