Interesting...thought I'd share
My allergies have been insane this year! I usually take OTC Zyrtec but it was doing absolutely nothing for me. I finally broke down and went to the dr and he told me he felt my RNY wasn't allowing me to absorb enough of the meds to do anything for my allergies. He wrote me a prescription for a dissolvable tablet of allegra and everything has been peachy since. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem but I thought I should share this just in case. Hope you all have a great week. Know I love you and miss you!

Jacqui, I had the same issue with my ulcer meds. I wasn't absorbing the protonix, they switched me to the orally dissolving Prevacid and symptoms have been peachy ever since!

Jacqui,
Mine have not been working very well either. I wondered about the absorbtion but I wasn't sure there was anything that could be done. When I go for my refill I will ask about changing too. I seem to constantly have a dripping, running nose and just the slightest touch of a sore throat from the post nasal drip. Thanks for the info that will probably help all of us.
Give hugs and kisses to "Toby" and my little "L". We miss you all.

That's awesome information to have. Thanks for sharing it. Mine have gone crazy this year too. Btw, they did tell us in training for group that RNYer's shouldnt use time released meds either and I believe several allergy meds are designed to be time released also. Just a thought.
Huge hugs and glad you are feeling better.

Absorbing meds have really been a problem for me.. I can ONLY take liquid loratab for any pain issues because for some reason a vicadin pill makes me very sick to my stomach and doesnt relieve the pain.. sinus meds havent worked... but with mo insurance right now... no Dr to get dissolveable pills... funny thing the synthroid is the only thing I do seem to get the right doseages from because I would always have good numbers..

Jacqui,
Back when I use to get constipated, I found that I could get better relief with tablet form of laxatives than capsule. I am assuming that is because capsules don't dissolve in water...and that is suppose to be the requirement for meds post-op. Aparently I have gotten past that though since antibiotic capsules upset my whole gastric system so bad.
I would really recommend for post-ops to ask if there is a tablet (swallowable/dissolvable/chewable) or liquid form of any med when they are the first few years out for any kind of med. I always look for these forms for OTC meds as well. It's amazing how many are out there when you start looking for them.
BTW...I have heard of many women having problems with their birth control meds after WLS...so...something to be aware. That is one med that if I didn't have the surgical protection for that I would definately want to be sure I was asorbing correctly!
