Frustrations from H#@&!!!!!!

Hi gang,  I was in Ohio a couple days to check on my dad since surg. & pick bing cherries at my Aunt Doty's house.

On my drive there , I was having trouble with my car A/C and had to turn it off a bit.  Over 90 degrees outside. It seems to be ok for now anyway.   I also came upon a closed road and detour that made my trip longer.  Last week, I tried to get down to St. V's 2X to see Sherri and Gail but had car problems and had to cancel.  Now it has been one thing after another. Then I missed Tracy's support mtg cause I was driving home from Ohio then and missed seeing all my OH friends.

When I got back to IN Tues. nite, , my A/C had went out in my apt so it was 90 degrees in here.  I called maint. to come fix it.

I brought about 23 quarts of bing cherries home with me and wanted to get started cleaning them and freezing, etc.  But it was just too darn hot in here.

Then at almost midnight, I noticed we****er spots on my interior wall and ceiling by my furnace room.  So I called maint again and found out that the guy that lives above me is having water heater problems and it was leaking down into my place.  So I thought the worst was over.  NOT

Today maint. starting replacing the guys water heater so they had to drain the old one.  OMG, there was a SHOWER of water like a rain storm running down my walls, across the ceiling and even out my front door into the hall outside on the floor and ceiling.  My furnace room was full of water but thank God I had put a big turkey roaster in there to catch water drips from a previous problem.  It was almost half full of water.  A 9x9 foot square of my carpet is all wet and soaked.  It will be fixed but I'm losing my patience with this.

I know that leaks can't be anticipated BUT it sure causes lots of havoc.  I've lived here 5 years and love the community, woods, and peacefullness.  LOL (meaning its quiet and no crime, etc.)  But things like this can be very frustrating.  I have a couple things from my grandma that died at 103, that could have been ruined by the water damage and they are NOT replaceable.  So I thank God that I was back home BEfore all this happened.

This is a 2nd time in the 5 years I've lived here that I've had water leak problems from the place upstairs.  Are these **** happens moments????

I still managed to get all my bing cherries cleaned, sorted, and put in freezer bags.  I also have a big dish full in my fridge and about 5 more quarts laying out on my kichen table that I want to rippen some more.

If any of you have idea's of ways to preserve bing cherries over the winter, let me know.  A couple others just told me to clean, sort, and & freeze them straight up for yummies in the winter when I can't buy them.  It'll be a great snack for me for months to come.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Big hugs,
Kat

Kat, I totally agree with the others that you need a big hug, and maybe a drink.

Kat its very unfortunate that you have to deal with the mess and be bothered.  However, as a landlord I would just like to say that "stuff happens" , it happens to the house I live in too.  Its never pleasant and almost always more money than you hoped to fix it and an inconvienience to everyone.  The fact that maintenance was quick to show up sends a message that your landlord at least cares about your comfort and his building, I hope that knowing this makes it easier to forgive.  I have the most wonderful tenants and would jump up in the middle of the night for them, I am sure they appreciate you.  Please try to forgive the incident and continue to live happy knowing "stuff happens".  Also if you have things that are irreplacable you may want to consider glass cases or something similar just in case?

Kat,

Sometimes, all we can do is suck in our breath, put on our big girl pants, and deal with whatever comes up. I've had weeks like that...to where you just have to ask 'what's next?'.

You were very fortunate with your grandmother's things. Last year (or was it the year before?), Linda Vicory was flooded out of her apartment..and then her storage unit also got flooded out. All of her childrens childhood memory things were destroyed...including that of Lucy's and Maggie's.These things can never be replaced..fortunately, Linda's memories of her daughters cannot be destoyed. The same holds true for your grandmothers things. They are just things. What makes them special are the memories they invoke..and those are with you forever.

I don't think I've ever had fresh bing cherries. Do you normall just pop them in your mouth or do you do any kind of prep to them? When I freeze strawberries, I slice them up and put Splenda on them before I bag them up.

I hope you're able to get your apartment and car woe's behind you. I'm still looking forward to a visit with you!

Sherri

OMG, you poor thing!  Why is it that when it rains it just pours. At least the cost is not to you and your landlord has to take care of it. And he sounds like he was pretty quick about it. I tell you, I love owning my own home but, when things break and it seems like several do at one time....it always seems to be expensive to fix. The stress of having a mortgage.
I guess its the bad things in life that make us really appreciate the good.
Speaking of good things... do you need someone to come eat those cherries with you?
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them and could make myself sick by eating so many.
Enjoy!!
Be Well  : )
