need help with protein
Hey Everyone,
I had surgery on 4/8/09. I am struggling, badly, to get the protein in. I've tried the low carb slim fast. It's okay--I like the taste of it, but for some reason I have a mental block on it and just dont want to drink it. I have also tried the milk/dry milk with flavor---it made my mouth disgustingly soggy...ugh. I just ordered some unjury chicken soup mix, but havent gotten it yet. Tomorrow I am gonna try to drink just milk. Ive been eating a lot of beans and cheese which is helping with a little protein, but not near enough. Any suggestions, recommendations??? Please!
Thanks,
Autumn

I am right there with you, it is very hard for me to get in all my protein in. I have gotten the bullets from wally world and GNC cant stand them at all, did the dry/milk with the milk, and have done the shakes I can tolerate them more. I have ordered some from al lady that is on the lightweight forum and will see how those go. Hope things are better for you soon.

Autumn, the only thing I could handle was the Nectar, it tastes more juicy. Kinda reminds me of Crystal light. I'd be happy to get you a few samples of the flavors I have if you'd like to message me your address. I think most everyone has struggled with this along the way, hang in there. It will get better I promise.

I had the same problem when I first had surgery. Couldn't do anything that had milk in or I was on the toliet more then I could even begin to count. Anything of the shakes were to were to sweet and thick, just felt like crude in my mouth. So for quite awhile i could only choke down the bullits but only one certian flaver. I tried the necter and I couldn't even get past the smell with out puking (might of just been that flavor) even my husband had come home and said what is in that cup on the counter and I said protien shake and he was like well you better dump it cuz it smells rotten LOL. I only tried one and wasnt brave enough to do the others. I did find pre made ones at wal mart, that I could eventually tolerate, they are EAS AdvantEdge carb control. They only have 17 gms of protien though, but that was better then the nothing I was getting. Now I drink the body fortress from wal mart, Vanilla and just mix different flavors of pudding with it and I can do those. I do have samples of Chike, 1 orange, 1 vanilla, 1 chocolate, and 1 strawberry. Also have 2 different samples of unjury 1 unflavored and 1 vanilla. I would be happy to send them to anybody if they would like to try them. They are just sitting around here doing nothing for me.

Dont let someone's opinion of you become your reality
Body Fortress from Walmart...Cheap and good. Mix with Sf syrups and milk and ice cubes. I use french Vanilla, Strawberry, cookies and cream. They carry chocolate but I can't do chocolate protein. BLAHHH. Make whatever flavor smoothies you want. 1 scoop is 26 grams of protein and the milk adds another 8 grams and they are so very delicious..I swear by them. I did get some samples last week from Support group of nectar...Not bad but expensive. For the price you can't beat the body fortress.

I am brand new postop and still on the full liquid portion of my post op diet, but I am figuring out I am lactose intolerant, so Ruthanne at Clarian has me using 8oz Lactaid milk (you can use milk), mixed with 1/3c nonfat powdered milk and I can add whatever protein mix, I am using lots right now, most contain approx 20-25g protein, so combine that with 16g of your milk mix and with 2 shakes you have quite a bit of your protein for the day. Follow the advice of the more experienced posters, you will learn alot.
