I'm home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got home today after 4 days at Clarian North.  Had my surgery on Thursday, everything went ineventful.  Surgery took about 3 hours and I was in my room about 12 noon.  Thanks Lisa H for updating the board for me.  I was pretty out of it the first day and didnt get the qualms myself to call people til later that nite.  Friday I was advanced to clear liquids and ordered Isopure and got it down ok, had hot tea and water all afternoon and drank another half of an isopure for dinner.  Well starting about an hour after the first Isopure, I started getting very gassy and having loose stools, mentioned it to my nurse who told Dr. Mattar. What I thought was a good thing (passing gas and having stools) turned out not to be...7 diarrheas in 2 hours and I ended up with a bolus of fluids and back in bed.  Throughout the nite the gas and diarrhea continued. Dr. Mattar came around at 7am again and told me I could not go home until the diarrhea stopped...in the meantime he ordered a stool sample, flagyl (in case of an intestinal bug) and more fluids.  I was of course, very emotional as I was miserable and tired of being there.  I continued the full liquid diet as it went down easy and stayed down and felt good on my pouch (tomato soup and carnation instant breakfast)....I noticed after a couple of hours that the diarrhea stopped, so I talked to my nurse.

I asked her if maybe the Isopure was causing my problems and she told me possibly.  So, I decided to test it, I waited until 45 min after my full liquid diet and then drank 30cc of Isopure again....within 15 minutes the gurgling and diarrhea started again and lasted 2 and a half hours...the nurse told me....well, that's the cause, you are dumping.  So, needless to say, I quit drinking that, stayed on my full liquids and after that episode, never had another one.

Dr. Mattar came in this morning and I told him what happened and he was skeptical that it was the Isopure until the nurse told him she watched me do it, so then he did.  Said he had NEVER had a patient dump on Isopure.  So, he released me to home and to follow up next Friday with him and told me to enjoy my new life.

I took a shower and went home, took a 3 hour nap, had some cream of chicken soup and came here:)

So glad to be on the other side!!!!! And so far, even with the dumping episode, would do this all over again and I haven't even seen the results yet!!!!!!!

So glad you're home. I'll be curious to see if you have issues dumping with other protein supplements. I've heard of a few people having this trouble. I sure hope not, but the nurse in me is curious! ;o)

Take care.

Sabrina ..welcome to the losers bench.  I also had some problems with proteins after surgery so I certainly understand.  It has since mostly cleared itself up but for the first three months the only one that agreed with me was the Nectar.
