I am sooooooooooooooooooooo ticked!!!!!

I have not told the HR person what type of surgery I am having.  BUT... i DO know how she feels abour WLS!!!  Her step daughter had it done and the HR person does NOT support it and thinks it the "easy way out" and if ya had some will power you would be able to do it on your own!!!  She is such a $itch!!!!  Sooooooo....whatever she tells the president/owner of my company..he does...she runs the place...not him....
soooooooo...i find out that the HR manager has told her "buddy" (the plant mgr) EVERYTHING about everyone @ work...and in turn he has told that information all over the plant then it gets back to the person it involves and they are dumbfounded!!! soooooooooo yesterday the HR mgr (who is my supervisor) takes the plant mgr (who has NOTHING to do w. my job) into her office behind closed doors and speaks to him....she then goes into the president/owner's office behind closed doors and the next thing i know...she comes out into the office and says... "i need to speak to you about this "vacation" time your'e taking"...i have an appt 04/16 (nut class) 04/21 (preop) and taking my son to riley 04/23... i have the vacation time and am using it!!!  so this witch says...whats up with this time off??  she doesnt believe me that i have to go to two diff appts for my surgery and thinks i am lying to her at this point... i walk into her office and am standing up... she says... "SIT DOWN"...
i am floored!!!
she proceeds to tell me...that after my vacation time and sick time are used up...that's it!!!  i don't get my short term disability (which was not a problem when i had a hystorectomy 6 yrs ago)....when you're done...  you're done!!!  they will be nothing more!!! she proceeds to say "i spoke to mike (pres./owner) and he says he's not paying you anything...at this point im pissed off and want to know why???  she's STILL being an ass!!!  and says in a very snide tone "if you have a problem with it, i suggest you talk to him about it"...
i said...
you know what...
"that's OK... b/c i have aflac.. and i pay an arm and a leg for it.. so, i will be using it"... she didn't care for that too much and then proceeded to tell me that there would be no this or that for me!!!
now, remember... i have not told her about the type of surgery i am having, BUT...i know that my insurance company has notified us (the employer) before about other events for other ppl...
soooooooooooo..she's tryin to slam the frigg'N door in my face at every turn...i really do feel b/c this is WLS and right now i feel as tho i have been discriminated against...
a yr and a half ago when the HR mgr had thyroid cancer and had to be off for 2 months b/c she couldn't be around ppl b/c of the radiation pill she took...there was no problem.....she got paid..
i know... she thinks im stupid... but i take care of the GL accounts...so i know what goes in and goes out... so why all of the sudden do i not have any benefits for Short term Disb. for WLS surgery????  the entire time she had me in her office... it was like someone that keeps poking their finger into you, trying to provoke you... i was calm (which is a rarity) and just told her i would use my aflac...
i did tell her that some ppl go back to work in about 2 weeks, but i wanted to be prepared just in case that's why i told her 3-4 wks...
i am just sooooooooo damned mad.... i HATE that place, the bullchit and everything that goes with it...
all of this after my boss the hr mgr just got back from a 5 week sabatacle to europe... which she does NOT have 5 weeks  vacation time... but got paid anyway...wtf is up with that???

you know what ****** me off the most...
the fact that the president/owner didn't have the balls or the resepct for me to tell me himself and had her do it...and then he couldn't look me in the face the entire rest of the day....
whats that tell ya????

such asses!!!
sorry....i prolly should have put this on the "rant" board...
i am sooooooooooooo damned mad!!!!
i said screw it... and took the two vacation days this week and am @ home, trying to wrap my mind around it all!!!!
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhh (that's me screaming)!!!!

Pam honey!

You said you'd thought this is what would happen and it turns out your right.   I'm sorry your Employer/HR dept is being so hateful.  I would ask them to put in writing what your benefit's are for surgery and time off.  PLUS - you should be able to use FMLA if needed for this surgery.    I had Dr. Gupta's office complete my paperwork for FMLA in case I needed it after my surgery.  I didn't need it but I wanted to be prepared in case.

I would also ask to speak to the owner and ask him why you are being treated this way by the HR dept.  It isn't your fault HER Buddy can't keep his mouth shut!  So what your having WLS most people miss LESS days after surgery than before.  I'd be honest and tell him your having it but didn't want to tell the HR person because she tells everyone's business.

Now, take a DEEP breathe, breathe in and out, calm down a little bit.  Don't let them stress you out because that isn't good for you.  Keep a great attitude.  Your attitude is 100 % of what you decide it's going to be.  Be positive or negative - your choice!

Huggs,
Frankie

Pam, Be sure you file your FMLA papers prior to leaving for surgery. Your Dr's office will fill them out for you and then you will have protection just in case they try anything with your job. It will give you 12 weeks  within a 12 month period that you may use for the same related illness. Even days seperatly....So...your followup visits or heaven forgid any time off due to complications would be covered too. It is best to make sure you are covered and have a leg to stand on in case it gets ugly. Hang in there and don't let her get to you......
Hugs!

I am so sorry you are dealing with this. People can be so daunting to your sucess. Don't let them take the control. If they are this way, you need a better job anyway honey. If you work in HR, there are other companies out there. Believe me, I am looking for another job myself but, here in lil ol' Terre Haute there isn't much. You got good advice here from the other two so, file your FMLA papers and at my company we pay into short term disability so they can not decide if we can or can't take it. If we are off for medical reasons it kicks in after 3 or 4 weeks (I think). Document everything to protect yourselves and if you lose your job, fight back legally. Frankie is so right about your attitude and you have a GREAT ONE!!  You are just so positive and happy and you think of other people. It's time to think of yourself. So, put your boots on and walk through the **** that they are giving you. Stand up and go to the president and ask him WHY?
Good Luck Sweetie

I dont blame you for being ticked - that just sucks. There isn't any other way to say it.  It really sounds like they are discriminating towards you, and that isnt fair.  Like everyone else said, make sure your FMLA paperwork is in order.  And I probably would talk to the owner about the situation.  Just calmly ask him why is your medical health different than everyone elses?

HUGS!!!

Pam, I am sorry that you are having such a bad day! If you like I will scream with you....ready 1 2 3 SCREAM!!! okay I feel better how about you? No but seriously I would get all my papers and the FLMA like veryone said before me. Just remember not everyone will support you in this journey just stay closer to the ones that due. Try not to let them get you all worked up, people like that strive on it. The owner should of been the one to sit you down and explain why he wasn't going to pay you. What an a$$. My all day nut class is the 16th too YEAH! I will have someone to talk with. Give me a shout later!

Good Luck!

Oh Pam,

I am so sorry you are going through all this "drama" with your employer.  It is ridiculous.  I would seriously document and think about filing a law suit for discrimination while you are recouperating.

When employers act this way the only way they learn is by law suits.  Apparently you work for a small employer if there is no FMLA benefits.  I don't understand how they can pick and choose who gets paid for short term disability, unless you are paying nothing into it.  Anyway it goes it SUCKS.

Just say a few bad words and take a deep breath and tell your boss "go eat a booger" (my sister always says that when she is mad at someone) it makes ya' laugh at the thought of it.  Yuck.

Keep your sanity and don't allow anyone to steal your joy.  Honey, you are blessed and they will get what they deserve.

I believe in Karma...

Hi Pam
Sorry to hear you are going through this.  Do you pay for short or long term disability?  if so then I wouldn't think they could keep you from getting it.  If this is taken out of your check I would be checking up on it.  Also please do fill out the FMLA papers and just tell them you have to have them signed for your Dr's office.  That way you will have yourself covered in case they try to do another nasty thing to you.

Jacque
