Food question

Yes, the protonix are regular pills. When I said something to Dr. Evanson about them not being absorbed he kind of blew me off (but then he's been blowing me off so what's new?). My family doc and I have been working together to figure out why I've been sick and what we can do to turn things around. I will ask about the prevacid. I have the carafate already.

Thanks.

Melissa,

I hope the prevacid & carafate gives you some relief. I'd also use caution in what you eat for at least a month after you are told your ulcer is gone. If Dr. E doesn't do another endo to check on it, then I would be careful for at least 2-3 months from now.

I found that soft foods slid by the ulcer better. I know you are craving salads..but for me, it was like they scratched at them so I quit eating them until I was all healed. I avoided caffiene (like a plague!) and anything with citric in it at all.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. I'm sorry that Dr. E isn't listening to you better.

Thanks for the advice. Dr. Evanson said he was going to repeat the endo in 6-8 weeks. I have not had any caffeine since surgery and don't plan to start now. I also will make sure I avoid citric things. I'm sorry that Dr. E isn't listening to me too, which I could switch docs.

My favorite meal right now is a salad.  I use a mixed green salad mix because regular leaf lettuce has no nutrition value at all.  Actually since I work at McD's I bring home one of their side salads and it has a wide variety of mixed greens but you can also buy the mixed salad in the bag.  I add shredded low fat cheese, bacon bits, Free Catalina dressing, and a boiled chicken breast that I run through the food processor.  Because the chicken is so dense it fills me up quickly and keeps me full for the five hours I use as a guideline for my meals.

Boiled chicken breast, I'll try that! I think that's what I was looking for, something that would fill me up more. I love the taste of my salads, but it seems like I'm hungry again very soon after I eat them. Thanks Jeannie.

Melissa,  I am glad you are getting an appetite and want to eat again.  My NUT at St. V told me that since I still don't eat my 6 oz. at a meal sometimes, that it is ok to have one snack between meals, and to make it a protein snack.   I choose to eat a cheese stick most the time.  Sometimes I eat it with my salad.  I also make ham rollups for meals at times.  I put spicy mustard on the ham, then a slice of cheese and a slice of lettuce,  roll it up... and its yummy.  If you cut them in half like Chris does it would make them smaller portions for you but its still got the protein in there.

I make my salads taco salads when I want something changed up... however, you probably cant take the spicy right now... so... it will have to wait.   I take my ground turkey and season it with taco spices, then put it in a few small containers and freeze some of it for whenever I want it.

I make up my salad and take out my taco meat and heat it in the microwave and put it on my salad. Then I top it off with tomato, cheese and some bell peppers.   I also eat some wheat thins or crackers of that type with it for the crunchy extra something if I dont have any bell peppers.

You might wanna try the new flavored wheat pretzel sticks made by pringles if you get the crunchy craving.  They are super thin and small but they are good and they will get that flavor in your mouth without eating something you shouldnt have.

Prevacid had a tablet that dissolves on your tongue.  They sent me home with them.  I took them for the first 4 months.  They dont taste bad and they are great on ulcers.  Marc had 6 ulcers in September and they had him on that med for 3 months and he is all better now.

Good luck SweetPea!!!

Huge hugs,
Tracy

Tracy, thanks so much for the great ideas. I am getting hungry just thinking about it! Just got off the phone with the dietician who is going to work on my tapering off schedule for my TPN and hopefully I will be off it by Friday! YEAH!  I have a call in to the dr about Prevacid. My youngest has been on it for his reflux since he was 6 weeks old. My family doc gave me samples of a powder form of prilosec (but it seemed to have too much sugar, made me really sick).

The flavored whet pretzel sticks sound great and I have been craving crunchy things. I think I've done so much soup and jello for the last month or so that I need food with consistency! I will have to go find them!!

BTW, you are still losing weight at a great pace! Seems like just yesterday you were celebrating being in the century club and now you're at 121 lost? That's awesome!! So happy for you. My weight has been stalled since I've been sick so I look forward to getting back on track and working out again!

Hugs,
Melissa

My favorite salad ingredients are sliced fresh strawberries, Mandarin oranges, craisins and sliced almonds with fat free Rasberry Vinagrette Salad Dressing.  MMMMMMMMMM
Be careful of the craisins because of the sugar.  Just a few give it a delicious flavor and some substance.

In my salads, I like baby romaine and baby spinach.  I cut up my cauliflower and broccoli with kitchen scissors into small pieces so they go down my throat easier, don't get stuck, and digest easier.  I put diced 97% fat free ham, boiled eggs, green pepper, and cucumbers in it.

I dip my fork in Kraft Fat Free French dressing on the side.  I don't pour it on the salad.  Sometimes I add some sunflower seeds, crasains, and slivered almonds but usually not.

I like to make shish kabobs with chilled shrimp, chunks of pineapple,  & sliced green pepper on them.  You can also roll up 97% fat free ham or add tomatoes.  There are many good fruits, vege, and lean ham you can add to make a quick shish kaboob that doesn't need grilling.  I prefer to use shrimp because it is so high in protein.  But like Sherry said you may want to stay away from ****tail sauces and ketcup right now.

Try frozen grapes.  They're good too.
