Dr. Deeya Brooks
Me gots a question!
I was wondering if anyone goes to Dr Brooks? My PCP Cannot do a 6-month weight loss diet with me because I wiegh 100 pounds more than his office scale. Amy (from Dr. Gupta's office) had called me a few days back and asked do I basically have everything set up as far as my 6-month diet goes, so we can get my info submitted by the end of july. I told her I was still looking and trying to find out how to start this thing! She recommended either Dr. Brooks or Weigh****chers(which I have joined in the past). I was wondering if Dr. Brooks is a PCP or what? And do I also have to like cancel the PCP now and go to her? or what? I really need to get this started, like big time! I would love to be able to have the surgery by the end of the summer. Thanks guys.

Weigh****chers can work if the Surgeon and insurance accepts it. The purpose is to see if you can manage a strict 6 month diet program. Realize even with surgery you need to manage what you do and if you can't do it now surgery doesn't always make it easier. It will restrict the amount you eat but not the number of time you eat. You can eat a bag of peanut every hour and get 2500 calories in.

I am not scolding you just trying to give ou information.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Yes, I totally understand that, but the diet is not necessarily my gripe. I just don't know where to start with it. I personally would like to just go to a doctor because I know that is more "official" than weigh****chers. Weigh****chers would be a way to go, I've already confirmed that. What I wanted to know is if anyone had any ttype of experience with Dr. Brooks or maybe even another Dr. that can monitor me and help me through this deit, so I can get my approval. Believe me, I am not in no way shape or form complaining about this diet, I mean it's only 6 months. I've been big all my life, I can wait another 6 months...lol, I just want to get it done so I can be threw with it. Because the longer I wait, the worst it will get, and I will never get anything finished.
Brok,
Dr. Brooks is my 'family doctor'. I know she's suppose to have a good weight loss program. She's located there at St. V's, 4th Building, 1st floor...right down the hall from the dietician's office. That said, I wouldn't count on her much as a family doctor. Whenever I've needed to see a doc, she usually isn't in and I wind up going to the Immediate Care instead. I couldn't count on her to monitor my thyroid close enough and ended up finding & going to an endocrinologist on my own so that it could be. For another issue I had, I asked her to refer me to a specialist and he ended up being the wrong type of specialist for my problem and was a complete bad experience all around. I can say one thing for him though...he did at least give me a name of the right kind of specialist for my problem! She is 'so caring' about her patients that while I was a patient at St. Vincents (4 days in September and 2 weeks in October) WHERE HER OFFICE IS, she came to see me exactly ZERO TIMES. And that was with me almost dying! When I got out of Seton, she did a crappy job with the coumadin as well. After she had her nurse to tell me to set up an appointment with the Hemophillia Center, she quit making any adjustments at all! Her office never even called me to see if I had gotten an appointment or not. There was 3 weeks between when her nurse told me about them and when my appointment was at the Hemophillia Center! She never made a single adjustment in my dosage. She had me on 2 mg of coumadin which wasn't near enough. I'm up to 8 mg now and it's still not quite enough.
So...if you want to go to her JUST for the weight loss program, I'd say 'go for it' but I certainly wouldn't count on her for much beyond that. Needless to say, I AM looking for a new family doc! Anyone know a good one in the St. Vincent network? I can go to any network I want with my insurance but I do prefer St. V's.
now...you made a wonderful choice with Dr. Gupta!!!!

I went through the same thing! My PCP does not have a scale that can weigh me--so I purchased a scale (for around $80) and carried it with me into the doctor's office each month for my monthly visit. It worked great and I was approved!
Hope you find a solution!
