Nervous/anxious about trying a new meal plan..

I emailed the nut at St. V's about my weight stall and also to see if there was any other suggestions for me protein wise because I'm struggling terribly and quite frankly I'm tired of only ever eating protein and still not getting enough in and this is what she sent back to me : "Misty, I think that you are probably just not getting enough calories in general which can slow your weight loss. What I want you to do is: 2oz. per meal 3 times daily (Try to eat 1oz. protein with 1oz. of a fruit/vegetable or starch) Eat 1oz. of protein between each meal (unless you can comfortably eat the 3oz. per meal) Keep working to try to get a little extra protein as able, however at this point, not getting enough calories is probably hurting you worse than the lack of protein. You might also need to incorporate a couple 8 oz. glasses of juice for more calories/carbohydrates which you to when you are exercising. Hope this helps. Please let me know how you are doing." I'm anxious about eating that much. That just sounds absurd and idiotic when I think before surgery I could eat 2 big ol plates of food and all but I'm gonna try and see how it works for me. I'm just nervous about eating soo much.

Misty, I understand your fear.  We've gone through too much to not be successful.  I hope you find some peace with it all.

I am basically on the same plan and it does work!  I am still eating 2 oz per meal with a "snack" between meals.  The NUT told me to buy a high protein bar and cut it into thirds.  I eat one piece of it between breakfast and lunch, one piece between lunch and dinner and then one piece about two hours after dinner.  It's worked so for me.  I'm losing 3-5 lbs a week now.  The bars I use are Pure Protein.  Each bar has 20 g of protein and 2 g of sugar.  I like the peanut butter and smores flavors.  The chocolate deluxe isn't too bad. Maybe this can help you.  I sure hope so.   Another thing, have you noticed your shape changing even though the numbers on the scale aren't?  My sister (who had rny 7 yrs ago) told me this week that it's probably time for me to get off the scale.  She said she remembers going through a phase where she was losing clothing sizes but not weight on the scale.  She said it was very discouraging to her even though she was getting smaller.  I know it's easier said than done.  I can't stay off the scale!   Take care Sweetie.   Jacqui

Thanks so much for your words of wisdom. I am starting to wonder if I don't need to talk to someone. I'm really struggling emotionally too and I'm not really sure that the Elavil is cutting it for the emotional issues. Who do I talk to though?? Dr C for a referell or the dietitians or what?? The psychiatrist that did my psych eval doesn't deal with eating issues I don't think. The idea of adding more calories and what not each day sends me almost into panick attacks.

Misty I went for like 3 or 4 weeks with out losing either.  I'm not much of a eater these days too, some days thats all i seem to want to do, theres just much that I like to eat any more. My issue is with the texture of the food in my mouth, i cant stand to chew up the meats any more, I have no idea what that is all about but it stinks lol.  Well any way my main comment was to say that during those weeks that i wasn't losing and bouncing up and down a few lbs at a time, I still went down a size during that time.  So I'm sure you are still progressing its just not showing on the scales yet.  Just keep your head up and think positive about it.  Dont let it get you down.  I am positive that your body isnt done losing yet. It might be that its just saying hey give me a few to catch up with u. Oh yea thanks for the comment on my pic the other day, I keep forgetting to message about it.  Didnt want you to think it wasn't appreciated.

The scale not moving scares me a lot. I'm just scared that I will forever be stuck in the 200s and I don't want that. I do find days where I tend to eat more than others but some of that also has to do with how my stomach cooperates on my really good days I tolerate more food. I'm just so nervous about eating soo much more.

Misty, It makes alot of sense to me. I've went through several rounds of not eating enough too. When you don't get enough calories in, your body goes into starvation mode and refuses to release any of the weight. You may want to ask her for a specific caolrie intake range goal. I was told 1000-1200. I was normally struggling to get in 800. I would be VERY careful with the juice though. Juice can be very high in sugar. I know you don't want or need to start dumping. Oh..I was also told to target at least 100 g of carbs per day (with at least 30 g of it being fiber). Utilize a program like SparkPeople.com to help you track what you're getting in. I would also suggest your measuring yourself. I did once a week. When I wasn't losing pounds, I was losing inches. I was actually losing fat..but was gaining muscles and since muscle is more dense than fat, I lost inches, but not pounds. The nuts should have the record of your pre-op measurements. Ask them for a copy of it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Sherri
