Any medical bill, medical, dental, optical, prescriptions, etc. any amount you pay out of pocket can be written off.  Even mileage to any dr visit or to pick up a prescription can be added as well.  I keep a manilla envelope and put my receipts in that all year.  Then, before I get my taxes done, I sit and add them all up and figure out my mileage to those visits.  Just make sure you keep all that in case of an audit.  To my knowledge, you cannot write off anything that insurance pays for.

I knew I held onto all the reciepts for some reason!!  Also, after you get the w-2 can you file your taxes or do you have to wait until a certain date??

As soon as you have all your stuff together, you can file. Just don't file later than April 15th (unless you file for an extension). Sherri
