Gotta Brag Just a Little!

With everything that has been going on in the past 24 hours.....I just had to brag JUST a Little bit! LOL   Many of you know that I am a storm spotter........and with the storms from last night, I spent well over 3 hours filing reports for the NWS.  There was some flooding in our local area and I had to take damage pictures this morning. I now have them posted on the NWS website, and I would love for you to check them out. There are only a couple, but it does show the destructive nature that just a few inches of rushing flood water can do! http://www.crh.noaa.gov/crnews/display_story.php?wfo=lmk&sto ryid=12166&source=0 Please let me know what you think!

Great job.  I am so happy for you that are feeling like chasing the storms.  I have read your post and sounds like you are doing a fantastic job.  Keep up the great work.  Everything happens for a reason and God will not give us more than we can handle.  You are in my prayers.  I have been in your shoes.  Times will get better Hugs

LaChelle,

I can't check out the pictures until I return to work tomorrow.  I have dial-up at home and they won't load.

I do understand the distructive nature of flood water though.  Troy and I had 11 feet of the Ohio River in our house in the flood of 1997.  We had just gotten married in October of 96 and bought this house.  It was cheap and we loved it.  It was like a little ski lodge.

The water got so high it threatened to take over the second story!  We boated in and entered our house through the second story windows and got out some sentimental things like our wedding photos and video.  I have the pictures somewhere.  We had to document each day with photos for FEMA. After the water went down, we couldn't believe what we found.  The force literally sucked out the windows, frames and all, from the ground level.  Our front door was in our next door neighbor's tree.  Our basement was completely full of mud and crawdads!  We rented a mud pump and had to suck it out into the yard.  There was over 3 feet of mud down there. I'll have to find the pictures and post them sometime.  It was definitely a learning experience.  You learn what's important and what's not when you go through something like that. The federal government bought our house from us and had it torn down.  It's sad because it was such a cute place.  It just happened to be a floodway.  We knew it when we bought it but we never thought the "big one" would come while we owned it. Thanks for listening to my stroll down memory lane.  I'll check out your pictures tomorrow. By the way, it sounds like you're doing fabulous! Jacqui

Amazing photos LaChelle.  You need to work for a newspaper or something as a photographer.

Thanks for all the comments!  I appreciate them!  I have always loved taking photos of weather events.....rainbows, clouds, and storms. I would love to get more today, so who knows! LOL Jacqui, I understand about the flood of '97.....I went thru that one, and also the flood of '93 in KY.  That was some rough stuff, but we survived, and managed well.   Have a great day all!
