Well, It has been almost one week since I received my band.  St. Vincents was GREAT and so was Dr Cacucci.  I had a bumpy couple days when I got home but it wasn't from the band, it was from the protein!  Once I switched, I got better REALLY fast.  Trying to get my head wrapped around the fact that I have to go back to work in the morning!  I ahve been posting on the Lap Band board and realized I hadn't said hi to my Hooiser friends! Happy new year to one and all!

Congrats and welcome back. Just curious what made you decide to go with the band instead of rny? What a great CHristmas present to yourself. Shanna

I weighted both carefully and in the end, my surgeon, my PCP and I all three agreed the band would be a better choice for me.  I felt more comfortable with the lower risk factors.  I wasn't comfortable with rearranging my insides and felt I could tolerate the port and band being inside me with no problem (psychologically speaking.)  Also I like the fact that if I did have complications the band can be totally removed and my stomach would go back to normal in a few weeks.  And I liked that just a few years out from the procedure, the weight loss rate is very close to the same.  If I start to gain later, due to stretching my pouch and not doing MY part, I can have the band adjusted and regain restriction and keep the weight gain at bay.  I'm looking at my band as a tool.  I have to do my part and change my lifestyle.  The band tells me when to stop.  I had a problem knowing when to stop.  Not really feeling what real hunger was.  All I was looking for was something to tell me, "Hey, time to stop.  You're full."  The band was the right choice for me but might not be for someone else.   Everyone has different needs and desires.

Hey, Deb. I am only 1 day behind you, so I understand.  Good luck with your recovery and good luck going back to work already. I won't be released until at least the 15th! I would LOVE to go back to work tomorrow! LOL

Congratulations Deb!  It sounds like you're off to a good start.  My band is about 5 weeks old and I'm loving it.  My surgeon said the port site would hurt for two weeks, and he was right to the very day.  I have no pain at all now, and feel a little restriction despite no fill.  Good luck on working your new tool!
