New to the board! question also!
My first and most important opinion is that you stay active with this board!! You won't get better support, better opinions or better friends!! This is a family.. like all families we have different feelings about things but we share those feelings in a decent way and seeing both sides of a situation is a great way to see the whole picture!!
We gettogether at a minumum of 4 times a year at a clothing exchange on the east side of Indy..and several times a year we just get together for a chat, a tub an tea, or a few may just gather for dinner out.
What ever Dr you decide on will be the best one in the world for you... ask anyone.. they all think theri Dr was the best.
Good luck with the process and DONT GIVE UP!! It is stressful waiting but worth every minute of the wait!!

Welcome to OH and to the Indiana board! I'd also like to welcome you to any & all activities that you see posted here. All of them are open to anyone, regardless if they are pre or post-op. Some are kid friendly (meeting for dinner, clothing exchange, etc) while some are more appropriate for adults only (hot tub & tea, ornament exchange).
OH has a section for reviews of many of the bariatric surgeons. Here is the link to the one I found on Dr. Ditzler: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgeon+r eviews+Jack+Ditslear+fmh.html?page=1
You may want to check out some of the other local surgeons while you're at it. I looked up mine too and noticed that Dr. Ditzler's lap RNY's take twice as long as Dr. Gupta's according to their stat pages. For me, the length of time I'm on an operating table is very important (I'm prone to blood clots). This also includes a page that lists which insurance companies have approved surgery through that particular surgeon. You'll find that most of the patient reviews are pretty similar from patient to patient, surgeon to surgeon. We all think 'ours' is the absolute best..lol. So..I would advise you to put more weight on the stat page than the reviews.
Again, welcome!

I have not had my consultation yet. I have been researching a lot of doctors in my area and he seems to have wonderful credentials and reviews. The only compliant people had about him was that his appointment sometimes take a while because he makes sure EVERY question is answered and that you genuinely feel like you have been taken care of. This doctor is about an hour away from my house which isnt too bad at all. Also, this doctor is in my insurance network. Another thing that was important to me was a good post-op care plan and with him, I am taken care of for several years after. Is there anything else you think I should consider that I may not already know about?
