Are you still getting enough protein? When my hair came out, my protein had gotten pretty low. Just an idea.

I have always had thin nails that I bite off all the time. My Nut put me on prenatal vitamins as it is chalk full of iron. I have been told from a lady I go to church with that's a beautician prenatal vitamins help your hair and nails grow. Now, for our situation I don't know how much it will help with the hair, but I have noticed my nails growing faster and are healthier. There are actually over the counter prenatals specifically for hair and nail growth I've seen it at Walmart. Just an idea. I'm 14 weeks today and am really seeing an increase in my hair loss. Its kind of starting to freak me out a little since I already had thin hair. Does the biotin really help? I've seen people mention that before. Good luck!! Julie

I do take prenatals and that is why I think my nails are ok. My hair grows fast but I am losing it again.

Linda, Everyone has already made all the suggestions I could possibly think of making. I continue to drink 2 protein drinks a day. My eating is so finicky from day to day, meal to meal, that I can't consistently count on food to get enough protein in. I also (before all this with my latest thing) took a 1000 mcg Biotin daily (and yes! the Biotin really does work). I have heard others mention the prenatal vitamins before. In fact, it seems like some doctors put their patients on them INSTEAD of the Flintstone's since they are chalk full of vitamins. I do know that my hair and nails had/have never been so healthy as when I was pregnant with my kids and taking them. I do believe that they contain biotin...which may be a big reason why they work so well (along with all the other vitamins...which the Flintstone's should have as well).  Part of the problem may not be nutritional at all. It may be seasonal. You are cooped up inside now with the furnace running. When you go outside, it's to get into your heated car. During the winter months, we get very little 'fresh air'.  The air we do get is drier...which means it's also drier on our hair & skin. Try using a leave-in conditioner on your hair during the winter months. Also, there are lotions available which adds moisture to your nails (look in the make up/nail care aisle at a pharmacy).  For myself, I also use a firming up lotion for the rest of my body. It's suppose to help some with loose skin and the parts that didn't get tucked can use all the help they can get! Hope this helps.. Sherri
