My doctor's office hasn't mentioned it to me yet.  I have my nut class scheduled and my pre-op testing and I know that I will have to do several days of liquids prior to surgery but nothing about a pre-op diet to lose weight persay.  Am I just clueless?

No, not clueless.  :) Every doc is different and some put there patients on a liquid diet for several weeks to loose weight prior to surgery. Not all do. There may be something other than the liquid, but I'm not aware of what that is. I was only on a liquid diet for 2 days and that was bad enough! Good luck!! Julie

I had Dr. Inman, and all I had to do was have a light lunch the day before, and a clear liquid dinner, if I recal correctly. I bet Dr. Evanson is similar, as they are in practice together.

All doctors are different. Mine makes his patients do a liquid diet 2 weeks prior with the last 2 clear liquids. Of course it is sugar free. The purpose of this diet is to defat the liver. Since they have to move the liver to do the RNY the less fat the easier it is to do the surgery. On the first 12 days I got to have SF pudding and cream of wheat but when that ended I got hungry but I lived through it!

They'll let you know what you need to do at your nut class. Since the nut class is for all patients that are through St. Vincent's, regardless of the surgeon, I would expect yours to be the same as Linda & mine were. The day before your surgery you can have a regular breakfast, a light lunch, and an all liquid dinner. Between now and then, eat 'normally' but don't pig out on everything. You don't want your sugars or BP or anything else to get all whacky on you or that could cause your surgery to be postponed. Good luck! Oh...there is NO dumb questions here! Sherri
