Surgery date...

Well..the surgery date is January 21st. So much for hoping that it happen in 2007, huh? Oh well, I guess I'll get our deductible out of the way QUICK. Anyway, Dr. Gupta & Dr. Bergman will be tag-teaming to do it. It'll be done at St. Vincent Carmel..and it's scheduled as a 4 hour surgery with a 2 day stay as a guest of their fine establishment. I am assuming that Dr. Gupta will try to have me put on the bariatric floor (since they all know her there..). We asked about my 'pregnancy bulge'. Basically, I do now have a hernia in my intestines and that's what's bulging. It is able to bulge because I have no adnominal wall there to prevent it from stickng out. So..the surgery will not only close me up but will also remove the hernia and install a mesh to act as an abdominal wall. I am assuming my return to work date will probably be 6 weeks or so after that...so early March sometime. It is expected for me tobe on the wound-va****il surgery. Oh boy. Well..at least we know when now.... Sherri

Try to keep the glass half full, you're right, atleast you will get your deductible out of the way early in the year.

Sherri,  I really was pulling for before the first of the yr. but am glad you atleast KNOW when they will do it now!!! So much better than waiting & wondering "when"- and I wonder if part of it is to give your blood thinners time to work & your body to stabilize beforehand. Thank goodness they are working together to fiox this problem. Just take it easy during the holidays & let the kids do the work for the most part,'k?!The time will fly by & you'll be better than ever! ((((hugs of love)))) Ellen

Ellen, Thanks. The coumadin/blood thinners doesn't have anything to do with it. In fact, I have to discontinue those meds at least 5 days prior to surgery to get it out of my system (so I don't bleed too much during the surgery). After the surgery, the hemophillia center and Dr. Gupta will coordinate how & when to get me back on all of them.' I am glad to finally have a date at least. They are trying to get the leave extension stuff in once again at Lilly's. After that, I think everything will be all set. Love ya sis... Sherri

Sherri, I know you are disappointed for the surgery to be scheduled later than you would have liked but I for one am glad you are here to have this next surgery.  Remember you had a near miss and the doctors are just wanting things to be right.  Patience is not always easy to practice when you are just ready to be done with all the waiting and readt get back to being normal.  Hang in there.  Time will pass quicker than you think.  It always does. Peg & LaChelle, Thanks...It really wasn't from lack of patience that I wanted the surgery before the end of the year. It's because my insurance changes Jan. 1st. In 2007, 100% of all of it would had been covered. After Jan 1st, it decreases to 80% coverage. Those 20%'sof specialists, OR, OR staff, and the hospital is going to add up fast. Since it's scheduled after Jan. 1st, it really didn't matter to me if it was Jan. 21st or Jan. 31st. It'll cost the same for either of those two dates. Since it is when it is, I'll have no problem waiting. There's some things I can be very patient about...lol. It's my understanding that the biggest cause for delay was trying to coordinate 2 surgeon's schedules with a 4 hour open window to do the surgery together. I really do feel special that these wonderful women are going to be tag-teaming this. But....this will probably push the hot tub party to close to St. Patty's day..... Sherri

Well, Sherri, it is just time to set you a new goal........Jan 21st, sounds like a good time to have surgery as any if you ask me!!!  I know you will be fine.  Take it one day at a time like you always do, and the date will be here and gone in no time at all!
At Goal! 165 pounds gone forever! Thank you Lord!
