DS And Anthem!

Please Don't get mad at me guys, I am soooo confused over all of this, but I have a question! Lately I have been strongly considering the DS, and I know Dr. Inman is basically the only one in the Indianapolis area that can do it.  I was also wondering does Anthem count this surgery as "Experimental?"  I am just soooo confused guys, it's rotting my brain!  I Don't know what I want.  Everyone just keeps telling me "choose the right surgery for you"  But okay, what if I think it's right but then I'm wrong.  Ugh...why can't it be just one surgery!!

Hi Brok!  I know it's confusing.  It took me awhile to settle on the DS, only because I had resaerched only the RNY over and over.  But I was right with my decision and couldn't be any happier!!  Dr. Inman is the only surgeon in INDIANA that does the DS.  And she is fabulous!  As far as Anthem goes, I'm not sure how they view the DS.  I do know that you can fight it if they think it is experimental.  You can prove it is not experimental though!  Medicare (a GOVERNMENT agency) says it is not, and many people use that as their argument.  Please post this over on the DS forum and ask about it there.  There are many DS'ers who fought their insurance companies and won the right to have the DS!  Don't regret any decision you make about this.  You CAN do it!  Good luck! I have Anthem and I know that my policy does not cover DS but I don't know if that is an Anthem-wide policy or if my employer opted to not cover it.  You should check with your Anthem plan to be sure. Good luck deciding on the right procedure for you!
