Can we take imodium????
Uh yea I know it's a gross topic but I'm half dying here. EVERYTHING (water included) that I've done orally today has gone right through me and even my tube feeds are going right through me. It's been awful especially since I have this Bronchitis and sinus stuff because everytime I cough or sneeze I feel like I'm going to have an accident. I've been in the bathroom most the day today and sooo I really need to know if Imodium is ok?????????????
Misty,
Call Dr. Caccucci's nurse tomorrow and be sure it is ok but I have been taking it and haven't had any problems with it. I've been taking the caplets (I don't do well with capsules).

Misty,
All you can do is to try to keep pushing the fluids. I know it can feel like the liquid is washing everything out and at the same time making you nausious...but it's just one of those things that you have to do in order to stay hydrated. After ~2 months of diarea, I can tell you that I think I had gotten very close to being dehydrated several times but I had a bottle of water as my constant companion.
You may want to ask if you can take Citrucel too. It's a fiber caplet that is doing wonderful at adding some bulk for me. The bottle says you can take 2 up to 12 times a day. I take two 3-4 times a day. If I drop below that, the diarea is back. BTW...it is also good for those who have the opposite problem. So many times we get constipated because of not enough fiber in our diet. For us post-ops, we try to keep our carbs low..and fiber is non-deigested carbs. The nut recommended at least 30 g of fiber per day for me. Once you can vary your diet more, Fiber One cereal (the original) has 28 grams for 1 cup. At one point, I put 1 cup of it in a baggie and would munch on it at night like it was popcorn. It really helped me to get the fiber in my diet.
Also, the visiting nurses had me try the BRAT diet. That stands for Bananas-Rice-Applesauce-toast. Eat only those that you are allowed for how far post-op you are. Myself, I can't stand applesauce so that was definately skipped! lol.
Hope you're doing better today.
