I'm currently taking Lexapro and considering RNY. I have listed all of this on my paperwork with Dr. Evanson an nothing has been said but I'm wondering how the surgery might effect my depression and the effectiveness of the medication.  TIA.

I am going through the same thing.... I just asked my doc on Tuesday and he said it will not hurt and to continue... actually from what I was told they like to give you a mild one after the surgery anyways... My doctor could be totally different then yours... The only thing they told me is NO time realesed or XR(extended release) medication. Well, I would ask your doc and see what they say... Good Luck

I take effexor xr and it's working ok.  It's a special formulation that works well with RNY.  It's a capsule that can be opened and taken with applesauce.  Even though it's xr, the medicine is still contained after the capsule is opened. It's worked great so far.  If I miss a dose, I get a horrible headache and I haven't felt those symptoms so I must be absorbing enough to keep them away. I researched this too before surgery and was lucky to be on one that works well with my situation. Good luck! jacqui

I've been on mood meds for a while. I have had to have several adjustments to mine, since having RNY last November. I needed higher doses. We don't know (my doctor and I) if that's to help me adjust to the changes, or because I'm absorbing differently. I guess it doesn't make that big a difference why, but they still work for me, just at different amounts.
