Clear and full liquids
Can anyone who had Dr. Huse as a surgeon be able to tell me how long he had you on clear liquids and then full liquids? Also, does he usually keep a drain tube in after open RNY? If you had an open RNY how long were you in the hospital? When I had my VBG I didn't have a drain tube and I was in the hospital 5 days, I just wondered if anything is different with the RNY. I found out today that I have to be at Clarian North hospital at 6:00 am and surgery at 7:30 am. Can anyone tell me about hotels in the area also? Thanks for any info that you have. Candy
I had Doc Huse...and an Open RNY...I had surgery on Thursday 7am and left the hospital for home on Sunday at 9am....no drain tube..when I left to come home on Sunday I was on full liquids. The day before surgery I could eat anything I wanted for breakfast...full liquids at lunch and clear liquids for supper...nothing after midnight...no drink..no eat...
good luck! will be praying for you....

Lord, keep me in your will so I won't be in your way.

Thanks for the info Janene! I wasn't sure how he did everything for an RNY. That's not too bad.....much better than some that have to go several days on liquids. Last time I had Dr. Huse was 10 yrs. ago when I had a VBG and I went into the hospital on Sun., had surgery on Mon. and didn't go home until Fri. 3 days sounds alot better. I was wondering if I'd be on at least full liquids by Christmas. At least there will be a few things that I can eat.....pudding, jello, etc. It's better than nothing, but liquids. Since it hasn't been that long since you had your surgery, can you remember how you felt around 8 days after surgery? We have 2 places to go for Christmas and was wondering if I might feel like doing some of those things....it's been 10 yrs. since my other one, so it's hard to remember. I also know that everyone heals differently and therefore may not feel the same way as someone else. Thanks for the prayers....they are greatly appreciated!

Sue,
Thanks for the info. More than likely I'll be able to come home on Thurs. since my surgery is on a Mon. Do you remember if you were released in the morning or the afternoon? The reason I'm asking is because my 2 sisters-in-law will be at the heart center down the street from Clarian. One of my sister-in-laws is having a test done Thurs. morning because she had a defibrilator put in last year and she has to have tests every year. If they were still in Indy it'd save my husband having to come down there because he works midnights and I hate for him to drive that far when he hasn't had any sleep. If he has to it'll probably be okay, but it'd be nice if he didn't. I was hoping that I would at least be on full liquids at Christmas. I know I can't eat much, but I can at least have pudding, jello, etc. Is there anything else I can eat on full liquids? I hope I feel as good as you with this revision. I can't remember how long it took before I started feeling good enough to do things the last time. We usually go to my mom's and then my brother-in-laws on Christmas so I was hoping I'd feel like going after 8 days out. Of course my surgery will be open....but I think someone else told me she had open and went home in 3 days also.
