kids....
This kinda depends on the age of the child. If they understand the health issues start by explaining mommy is having surgery to make you healthy. I would say that this surgery most of the time will make it to where we can do more as a family... go on vacations(cuz you can fit on the rides and not out of breath), go to the park for a jog.... the list goes on... but last tell them you want to be here for them when they are older and show them that you dont want them overweight and to have health issues. I would just kinda hit some of those points. This is what I am going to tell my 4 year old(that is how old she will be when I have the surgery). Good Luck!!!
Well the way I did it was I just sat them down and told them that I was going into the hospital soon to have surgery to make my tummy a little smaller to help me loose some weight. And they responded really well. They are 14,10 and 2 of corse the 2 year old didn't understand. Just be as honest as you can. I also told them not to worry cause daddy would be right there with me to make sure that the dr took really good care of me. And soon as I was in my own room then they could come and see for themselves how I was doing.
Good Luck with it. Let me know how it goes.
I told my girls, 7 and 6, that I was going to have surgery to make me healthier so I could live with them for a very long time!!! At first, they didn't put the 2 together, but then I explained what the surgery was going to do to make me healthy again, and then they started to understand. Now, both of my girls are excited about my upcoming surgery and have even shared the news with their classmates. Now, each time I go to their school, some of the other kids are asking me questions. The teachers are all excited and have shared some of their experiences as well. 3 of their teachers in the school have had WLS themselves, and have been a great source of information as well!
At Goal! 165 pounds gone forever! Thank you Lord!
