Honestly, if I were you, I would find a new PCP who is familiar with bariatric surgery.  This is a major surgery and doctors should have at least basic knowledge of it.

I had the same problem about my pcp he wanted me to wait because of this or that. So I just skipped him and went to an informational and the center took care of my 6 month diet supervision, Seeing the nut, and hooking me up with a surgeon. You might want to start at going to an informational. From there they will have you choose a surgeon. Then the ball starts rolling.  Take care Robin

Or perhaps you can help educate your PCP.  If he or she is a member of the AAFP (American Academy of Family Physicians) they can go online to their website and actually earn medical education credit for reading these articles.  Anyone else can access them too, if you want a good medical review.  Sorry about the long links. "Postoperative Care of the Bariatric Surgery Patient" http://www.aafp.org/online/en/home/cme/selfstudy/cmebulletin/bariatric/objectives/article.html "Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery" http://www.aafp.org/online/en/home/publications/otherpubs/afpmonographs/laparoscopymonograph/mis/objectives/commonproc/lapbariatric.html
