St V's Support Groups?

Hey Guys, I'm still a bit nervous to post on the forums for the simple fact that it seems like everyone here has been friends and stuff for like years!  And I come and barge in..lol, and also I have been very busy with school and work, but I have a few questions. Me and my mom (may be just me because I think she has some tickets to the pacer game) plan to attend St. V's support group this upcoming tuesday on the 13th I beleive and I wanted to know, what do they actually do there?  Do you have to call ahead of time or can you just show up?  Also is it completely worth my time to attend or not?  I am still in the beginning stages of all this, and making pogress extremely slowly!  When I first posted here I never had told anyone I wanted this surgery, so when I told my parents it was kind of hard getting support from them, so I had to establish that first.  But if you guys have any answers for me, they will be greatly appreciated!  Thanks! -BROK

YES, please attend support groups.  They are valuable to the success of the journey.  We all need to seek help in changing how we approach our current lifestyle. My wife and I attend the speedway meetings.  Third tuesday of the month at the speedway library. A rope with many strands is not easily broken.  We all hold each other up and celebrate successes and cry over failure's.  E

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Brok,

You are NOT barging in! LOL! We are all friends..some, we've met in 'real' life, others we haven't...YET. Some have been here for years, others, newbies as yourself. We all have it in common that we were/are obese and want to do something about it. So whenever you'd like to pop on here, please do! It's been awhile since I've been to a support group meeting..but I do highly recommend them, especially for those just starting out. You don't need to reserve a spot or anything. Just show up. Many times, there are guest speakers...surgeons, nutritionist, etc. I never left a  meeting thinking 'wow, if that wasn't a total waste of time'.  I believe you & your mom will gain alot from it. It will also help your mom in that she'd have an opportunity to get some of those nagging questions in the back of her mind answered. Welcome to the Indiana board! Sherri

Please come to the meetings!  You do not need to call ahead, just show up.  Even though it doesn't really start till 7pm, I suggest getting there a little early, it can get crowded.  Also, this week is the last general support meeting until January.  We start by going around the room and briefly introducing ourselves, are we pre or post-op, what surgery, etc.  Then the leader takes questions, and the group helps answer them.  It's good for pre-op and post-op folks.  You're welcome to bring a guest as well.  Hope to see you there!

Hey Brok!  Welcome to the board!  You couldn't find a more supportive group of kids anywhere!  These Hoosiers are the greatest, and I'm glad to be a part of them!!

Hi Brok  You came to the right place to have all your questions answered. This is a great place. I went to my first St. V's support meeting last week. It was great but a bit crowed. Do attend. I wish you luck on your journey of WLS. Feel free to pop in anytime. Learn all you can and keep your parents informed. But you will know what you have to do for you. Keep in touch.   Terri
