Question reguarding medicine.

I have heard some people say that post ops can take childrens motrin for temperatures if tylenol doesn't work and I was just wondering if you all, particularly St V's patients have tried this and done ok or what not?  I've had some low grade temps for about a week now, but my surgeon is pretty sure it's not my gtube and apparently it's NOT WLS related. The only problem is right now I have no symptoms of anything really going on so theres no answer to what is causing it. Tonight it's gone up a little bit higher then it's been but it's still low grade and I took some liquid max. strength tylenol and it's not really dropped but a couple points. Since it's NOT WLS related I don't want to call and bug the doc on call just to ask about it, but I want to try and get the temp down before it goes any higher.

I wouldnt see why you couldnt take it.  The only thing might be the sugar content.  I have taken Nyquil post op and it made my pouch upset for a few minute then it went away.  You may just have to take a little every few minutes to see how it does for you.  Good luck and hope you get to feeling better soon.

I thought ibuprofen was one of the drugs that's hard on our pouches. Can cause ulcers? I could be wrong, but I thought it was. I haven't taken any since surgery, just tylenol.

I think it is an NSAID but some times people say that the childrens motrin and just a minimal dose is okay so I didn't know if any of you had been told this or not.

Ibuprophen IS hard on our pouches and CAN cause ulcers.  This is true of all NSAIDS (Alieve, Motrin, etc.).  Having said that, I have resorted to the liquid children's Motrin a couple of times.  I figure the liquid will pass through the pouch quicker than the pill.  I also drink some water immediately after to help dilute it in the pouch and to help it pass through quicker.  It probably won't be a problem if you only take a couple of doses, but I wouldn't get in the habit of taking it everytime you need a pain killer. Good luck.

Thanks :)

I wouldn't be taking it for pain I would just be using it for the temperature stuff. I am thinking I MAY call and ask the nurse at my surgeons office, just in case/to be sure if it's okay because I have already had an ulcer since surgery. :)

I have taken the liquid motrin a couple times for cramps... tylenol just doens't kick those suckers... the liquid isn't too bad but it does have a high sugar content so be careful about that and like everyone said just don't use it every time you need a pain killer... only special occasions... like cramps!! LOL
