I will be having my surgery in December, but I was wondering if I would ever be allowed to eat sushi again after my surgery?  I know it would be a long time after my surgery before I could, if ever--just wondering if any of you post-op patients eat sushi now?

Yep, Yep! And I enjoy the seaweed wrapped ones the best! I think at about 6-12 months out, rice will be ok (as will most meats). Then go for it! Just chew well and you'll be fine! Sherri

Oh! Thank goodness!!!  I just recently (in the past six months or so) developed a taste for sushi and I LOVE it now!  My favorite is the spicy scallop roll and the asparagus tempura roll!  The cool thing is that after surgery two or three pieces of sushi will make a meal for me so one roll will make 2-3 meals for me!!!!!  Talk about cheap sushi eatin'!  Thanks Sherry!

Maddie, I would take it easy on the spices and slowly reintroduce them back since they can cause ulcers. Also remember that there isn't alot of protein in typical sushi so be sure to eat your crab legs first. Sherri

Wow--I guess it never occurred to me that spicy foods can cause ulcers--I have never had a problem with spicy foods so I never thought about that before--thanks for the tip!  I will DEFINITELY need to talk to the nutritionists at St. V's about how to incorporate spicy foods into my diet, cause I LOVE spicy stuff!

Maddie, I used to love mild hot wings, but my pouch no longer even likes mild spicy.  Everyone's pouch reacts differently to different foods, so I hope you will continue to be able to eat spicy.   Floyd

So do you still crave spicy or since your pouch doesn't like it has your craving for spicy foods worn off??

I still crave them, and sometimes do have a mild spicy cheese sauce on my mexican food, but I know that pouch will get angry.  It's not that I can't have them, just have to take it easy and know that pouch may spasm alittle. Floyd
