Ornament Exchange Update

WOW!!!  What a response.  We are already well over 20 that want to participate in the exchange.  I am absolutely thrilled!!! Several of you asked about families attending.  Since this is being held at my house where space is limited, I think we need to limit it to OH members and their spouse or significant other.  Based on the responses already received we could easily have 30 to 40 people here and there would just be no place for children to play.  Hopefully since you still have 5 weeks you can find a sitter or come up with some arrangements so you can still attend. For those of you that say you "don't" cook, may I suggest you get together and figure out who's bringing veggies or fruit or cheese trays. That way we will have plenty of variety and you won't have to worry about cooking.  I will have all the drinks and tableware and I've already started making ice. Please let me know if you have any more questions.  I'm so excited I don't know if I can stand waiting for 5 more weeks!  I just love Christmas!!! Hope to see you all soon,

Okay,.. I'll admit publicly to it  !!! I am one of the non-cooking people. I just am not that handy in a kitchen. I was thinking we could coordinate on here what we're going  to bring. Does anyone have any preferences?

Brenda,

I didn't 'officially' respond, so I thought I should. Bill & I will be delighted to attend. Of course, it all depends on what happens medically & my body's healing abilities as to what I'll be able to bring. If at all possible, it'll be a 'cooked' item...you know me..lol. It may be my first adventure back into the kitchen.

BTW...I really enjoyed your & Floyd's visit yesterday. It's so good to see friends when you aren't at 100%. You guys, Ellen, Cindy P, Linda V, Gail, and Marianne really brightened the past few weeks with your visits and phone calls. I really appreciate all of my dear friends on here! And I have been savoring those veggie chips! Sherri

Since I am still pre-op, I need some recipes to try out before the exchange. If anyone has a favorite that they want to share with me, please send it to me, and I will try it out. That way I will be able to bring something that everyone will be able to enjoy!  I love to cook, and there isn't anything to difficult for me to want to try........as long as I have the items! LOL  I am really excited about the exhange!! I have already put in for the day off! I should hear something in a week or so if I have the day off!  Keep your fingers crossed!!! Again, just please send me as many recipies that you can!

LaChelle,

I have some recipes on my profile. My fave..and my hubby's..is the sf chocolate eclairs. I know I won't be up to making them this round. I would cut back on the milk though...especially for the chocolate 'icing'.

Thanks, Sherri. I have copied them all off, and I will try out the eclair recipie first! They sound really good and very easy to make.  Being a former pastry chef, this is right down my alley! LOL I am also going to be trying the other recipies out on my family. I like to use them as guinea pigs!

Someone e-mailed me wanting non cooking suggestions for the exchange so I thought I would also share on here for the other non cooking losers...

I suggested the veggie tray but now Vicki is bringing that.  Other things could be:

fruit tray....strawberries, pineapple, grapes, berries. Or sliced up apple wedges, orange and melon slices.  Even fruit-k-bobs can be cute.

Olive trays...try to get them at a specialty market.  I dont think to many walmarts carry them.

Cheese trays...u can cube up cheese yourself or call your local deli and they will even do it for you.  I know we have an amish cheese market here on I-70 that has great cheese.  Also our local italian market has Boar's Head cheese and Meats which are very WLS friendly...no added sugar or sugar water in the meats...Meat trays work well too

Tuna salad or Chicken salad is pretty easy to make jus****ch the ingredients...u dont want to use a mayo thats loaded with sugar...better to mix this yourself in a bowl than to buy it at a deli becouse they usually add sugar..

Deviled eggs work as well...they arent to hard to make and only cooking is boiling water for the eggs...

Hope this is helpful

LOL If anyone else has any ideas, please pass them on to me. I will be searching online to find more, just in case.  Anyone have a favorite website?  I have tons of cookbooks, and most of them have the food exchanges in them, so I am sure that I can find something in one of those!  How fancy are we going?? Remember, I love to cook, and the kitchen is my first home! LOL Cooking Dinner Perfecto
